Believe me I searched all over this forum and the internet and now I just have to ask the question.
Where in the heck is the
cayman
stereo amp located. From all of the research it is supposed to be in the trunk. I just purchased a 2007 base
cayman
and the car has a front and reck trunk. There is a non-boss system in the car. Which trunk is the amp located. I have checked the front where the battery is located and I see nothing there. There is an enclosed black plastic box in the cabinet in front of the battery locale. But it is fastened down with a couple of silver clips. Did not bother to open that up---is that where the amp is located.
I am at a complete loss and almost embarrassed to pose this question
Please help.
Also can someone recommend a five channel amp to replace the stock amp for a non-nose system. I intend to replace everything, to include new wiring and speakers and head unit.
I am not an expert but I believe the base stereo doesn't have an amp, only the sound package + and the
Bose
option have amps. My understanding is that the non amped system is easier to upgrade and is preferred by most as you can inexpensively add a higher quality amp.
Try looking under the carpet under the passenger seat. It is there on 981s and looking at the 987-2 PET, appears to be the same form factor and mounting points. However, if you have a two speaker basic system, the radio may power the speakers and there is no amp.
V6
Guys this is really helpful information as I have looked all over the trunk.
My car is a 2007 BASE
Cayman
. Am I to assume I have a 2 piece basic system with no amp. I don't want to tear the interior car up looking for an amp that is not there.
Please guys weigh in on this as I am getting closer to understanding what is going on
I have a base stereo also in my
981
. It is a stereo receiver and there is no amp. I bet the 987 is the same. If there is, the amp is under the passenger seat and can be accessed without tearing the carpet. Try sliding the seat forward and check it yourself. Good luck.
The
Bose amp
is in the frunk mounted behind the jack and flat tire kit, there should be two plastic turn locks that hold the piece in place which contains the kit and hides the amp. You can check there for an amp, though on the base system I'm not sure if there is a dedicated amp or if it's run off the head unit.
As you indicated that have a 2007 model, your amp (if you have one) is located in the frunk mounted behind the jack and flat tire kit as e30if indicated. The following pics show the location of where the amp would be located. As I had an aftermarket amp installed, I had the OEM amp removed so that the aftermarket crossovers could be mounted in its place. The crossovers in the pics is where the OEM amp would have been mounted. FYI, I too have a 2007 non-S model w/o
Bose
(I have the Sound Package Plus system).
