I am currently upgrading my entire sound system for a non-bode base
2007 Cayman
.
I am interested in the Focal 6.5 component speakers for the front doors by use of a an adapter. Although the focal I am interested in is the PS165. But there are so many different variants of the PS165 series. For those of you who are rocking the focal speakers can you please recommend the best ones to go with for the non-
bose
base system. I am not interested in the ones with the separate mid-range because my system only supports the subwoofer in the door and the tweeter in the dash.
Please help
Are you sold on getting Focal stuff? In my experience
Focal tweeters
are extremely pronounced and can be really tiring on my ears, but that's my ears. If you have a shop nearby that carries Focal stuffI would highly recommend going and listening to them yourself to see if you like the sound. Everyone has their own preferences so what we recommend might not fit what you are looking for. When I did my system I used a mix of Audison, Audiofrog, Helix and
Kenwood
equipment, but that's probably way more then you are looking to do to your system. Are you only replacing the door/ dash speakers while keeping the factory amp and headunit?

Thanks for being so kind in replying to me.
You hit on a real sensitive matter for me when it comes to tweeters. I am not a tweeter person. I am more in to deep full sound because I listen to only rhythm and blues---Old James Brown and funk fan. So, I hate the shrill sound of tweeters. I have been turning away from the focals and was only considering these because every on the forums were touting them. I am imagine they are audiophiles which I am not.
I have a base unit with no amp and only one speaker in the door. Don't laugh but I have been considering putting some Infinity Kappa components in the front. I have 2 kicker 8 inch subs in the rear trunk with two rear speakers in the tower. Putting in a JL 700/5 channel amp to tie all of that in. This is what I am considering. Do you think the Kappas are a bad idea for front speakers. I know they are not high end audiophile speakers.
Please let me know what you think
Not sure what your budget is but there are a ton of great options out there, just depends what you are looking for. If you are comfortable spending a bit of money I'm really enjoying my Audiofrog GS's, a full component setup of these would likely run you in the $700~ range for a set of 6.5" mids, tweeters and crossovers. They have a warm sound and the tweeter is essentially invisible in my listening. The same is true of the set of Helix C52's that I have in another car. You'll have to take this with a grain of salt though, both of my systems are being run active (without crossovers) and with DSP's so that I can tune the sound how I like it. I had a set of Infinity Kappa's back in the day and I really don't have anything negative to say about them, I haven't heard a set of Infinity speakers in a long time but for the price I'd say they are a great option. Again if you have some audio shops near you definitely go listen to a few different brands, take your own music to put on. You may find you really like the set of Focal's everyone puts in, you could also find a completely unexpected set of speakers that you really like. Audison, Hertz,
Kenwood
Excelon, Helix, Hybrid Audio, JL Audio, etc, they all make good stuff.
Also a couple quick notes; the dash is going to require a bit of modification to fit just about any aftermarket tweeter. I had to cut the factory tweeter mounting tabs off the dash and open the hole up a bit in order to fit my tweeters in there. Don't expect to be able to swap the factory tweeters back in down the road. You will also need adapters to fit a 6.5" speaker in the door since the factory size is an 8" (this might be different in the base system vs the
Bose system
).
