I'm installing an iSimple Tranzlt BLU HF in my 2006 987 to provide a bluetooth link between the factory

radio and my
iPhone
for phone calls and audio playback through the
Bose
. Someone that recommended the iSimple device on this forum about 6 months ago indicated that he put the microphone for the Tranzlt device inside the steering column aligned with one of the existing slots in the column originally intended for factory telephone option. When I opened the column cover, I found what looks like a microphone already aligned with the slots on the left side of the steering column. Does anyone know if that is actually a factory installed microphone or some other device; temperature sensor, etc.? If it is a factory microphone, can I hijack it for use with the iSimple device? Has anyone else mounted their microphone for hands free phone usage inside the steering column or used the existing microphone; if that is what is already there?
From what I've read, the microphone is used for noise compensation by the
Bose system
, and by the
PCM
headunit for old-timey cell phone calls. I haven't read or seen examples on the internet of anyone using it successfully with an aftermarket setup.
Thanks red-stapler. That makes sense. Are you aware of anyone using the identical unused mesh port on the right side of the steering column to mount a microphone inside the column for a hands free bluetooth phone application such as the iSimple Tranzlt BLU HF?
i researched this when deciding where to put my Alpine head units mic. Everyone said that stock location is awful and instead to mount it top left on the a-trim pillar. I did that and everyone I talk to no matter waht the speed can hear me crystal clear, even when accelerating quickly. Mount it there and hide the wire under the a-pillar. Siri also recognizes me great in this location
I mounted mine on the steering column basically dead center. No one has commented that the sound suffered...
I relented and mounted my Transit BLU HF microphone on the top of the steering column and it seems to work well. If I tire of looking at it, at some future date I'll attempt to hide it completely within the steering column. The iSimple Transit BLU HF turned out to be a relative simple and inexpensive approach to adding bluetooth telephone capabilities to the

unit in my '06 987. It is not as clean operationally as having BT built into the head unit. For example, the radio must be on and tuned to the established BT hijacked FM channel to listen to audio files from your phone or take/make BT phone calls. In order to listen to normal radio (AM/FM) channels, the Transit BLU device must me turned off. When it is turned off, you cannot send or receive calls using BT. So, a bit klugie but it works for my needs and considering I purchased the device for about $80 and easily installed it myself, I got my money's worth.
