Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Fill 03 996 carrera 2' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check above' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Unless you have an OBDII tool then you will not know what caused it but its worth checking the above.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
Just filled my 03 996 carrera 2. Driving along the engine check light has come on with instuctions to drive to the garage. Engine sounds fine no smoke or noises, temp and oil pressure good. Limped home not above 40 but seems normal. Not one to push my look any ideas before it goes to the garage?
Thanks for any help.
I had a similar problem 3 months ago and mine was a snapped cable on the crack sensor (after a refuel which was strange) but it might be for a number of other reasons such as
a) Fuel cap not closed properly
b) Fuel overfill - and contamination of the sensors
Unless you have an OBDII tool then you will not know what caused it but its worth checking the above. You might be able to reset the light by removing the battery temporarily so as to reset the ECU
As suggested, try a) above, and also check that the 'O' ring is seated in the cap properly.
On an '03 you don't need to disconnect the battery to reset the ECU adaptation. Switch the ignition on, but do not touch the throttle pedal, for one minute. Then switch off the ignition for at least 10 seconds. This resets the adaption values in the ECU to factory settings.
Most likely cause of the Engine Management Warning Light is:
1) Mass air flow sensor om air intake.
2) Lambda or Oxygen Sensor in Cat Tubes in exhaust system.
On the Water Temperature could be the "temperature switch" or the fan relays.

Thanks for the replies. Tried the ignition reset but light still on. I,ll run it to the dealer tomorrow and get the sensors checked.
Once again thanks for the help.
Just a quick thought......
Do you think a faulty sensor will be covered by the Porsche extended warranty I took out last June? OPC will be doing the work.
Thanks again
> b) Fuel overfill - and contamination of the sensors
I don't understand this. Why would overfilling your car with petrol cause an issue with the sensor?
I thought the only symptom was wet shoes?
I'm with you on that GD, I cant see how overfilling which is an external event to the fuel system can contaminate the sensors.
If however because the tank is totally full an increase in temperature presurises the tank and pushes neat fuel into the system, this might leach some fuel into the sensor areas especially thos 2 on the inlet side.
Regards Big Bob :bye:
I was told that an oxygen sensor exist near the fuel tank having a better look at some diagrams
