Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

Suggestion

I guess you could hot wire a supply to the fan motor, but that wouldn't test the sensor.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Please can anyone tell me when the rear fan under the spoiler operates and if there is a quick way of testing it. Since owning the car, I've never noticed this thing operating. The front ones operate when hot or when air con is on, but cant say I've noticed the rear one operating. I dont have any cooling issues, just for my own information want to make sure it operates when needed. Car is 2000 C4 cabrio tip Cheers Dave.

POST 2Original post

It's all here: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=330170 On my C2 the engine compartment fan hardly ever came on. On the Turbo it's a common occurrence.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Richard, Many thanks. Do you now if there is anyway to force the fan to run to check all is capable of operating? Cheers Dave.

POST 4Original post

Only with a Porsche tester, I'm afraid. I guess you could hot wire a supply to the fan motor, but that wouldn't test the sensor. If there was a problem, you would get a flashing light in the temperature gauge, so I don't think you should worry.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No problem, thank you so much once again. Dave.
