Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Like some of the other replies i just saw, i definately have the switch and when swithed off it is highlighted on the cluster that it is off..i suspect from the car that it was an option as it has quite a few nice bits non standard..i have pics on my profile if your interested..you might be able to see the switch on the interior shot...if yr interested lol
Leading evidence: 'from the car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'from the car' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hi guys
I have a buddy who's a great driver (advanced driving license and alot of karting experience). he wanted to drive my c2 so i was happy to let him.
After an exhilerating drive through the country roads of esher, we stop on an empty road and then he gives it the beans full on! she takes off in 1st then the engine just races (foot no doubt to the floor with the car probably bouncing off the rev limiter!) with the car loosing speed. He puts it into 2nd then a sudden surge is felt before the car looses the forward urge and produces the same engine scream....He puts it into 3rd and the same thing again but after the initial engine scream it seems to settle at a speed then carries on down the road....i know what your all saying and yes....the smell of a burning clutch followed us all the way back to his house...he thought it was the tyres wheelspinning until i told him its impossible as the traction is on plus the strong whiff of clutch burn did his story no favours!! anyway..besides the clutch needing doing soon...could he have done engine damage due to the max revs being applied?? engine was very warm before he did it...
cheers
peter
of course not, that's what the rev limiter is for, the only way to over rev is to change down too high.
Nothing wrong with running it to the limit in each gear as long as its fully warm. I do that to mine each time I drive it, I love the howl between 4 - 6.5k, though my gf screams like she being murdered when I do, she hates been driven fast, hence i'm better off on my own, stereo wound up, a road with no speed camera's ( where are they)
I really want to take it abroad and give it a decent spin.
IF the engine was at the right temperature then its normal "tear and wear" i.e no real damage.
As for the clutch how many miles do you have on her ? I would not worry too much about it as it might be just temporary overhead of it
It's always a danger to lend something you value to someone else as friendships can be put in jeopardy. I suspect that there is no damage other than accelerating the normal wear and tear function.

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you do the clutch test (see thread further down in forum) and get poor results, plus if your clutch is on the way out the pedal will get noticably heavier.
What probably happened is a brief over heat of the clutch. Similar to brake fade, the friction surfaces of the clutch over heat and vaporise the top material creating a fluid cushion between the friction surfaces which allows plenty of slippage. This will continue until the clutch has been allowed to cool down again, so there will have been increased wear during this period but not necessarily to the point of requiring a new clutch.
There is one thing you could try removing to avoid this happening again-your mate!!
I have done car racing and pleny karting myself, but karting is a totally different driving style to cars, weight transition has to be taken into consideration so much more in a car, so these karters out there who think they can jump into a street car and rag it has bad news written all over it.
Oh, and if you do let him drive it again, tell him that if he is going to floor it from standstill, dump the clutch, do not slip it, let the tyres take the punishment and not the drivetrain.
BTW do you miss the 928? My father had a guards red 928 s4 when I was a kid and that got me into porsches, such a bite-the-back-of-your-hand beautiful car!!
Now you need to try it. It's more fun when you do it yourself! Try counting 1 100,2 1000 3 1000 4,1000 and stop when you reach 60 mph sad but addictive. Put a corner or two in the equation.
Watch out for the Babylon :cop: and small children crossing the road.
Oh and badgers!!

Welcome to one of the many reason for owning the worlds finest sports car!
Yes, debate has gone on before and one of the guys who also has a 98 model said his doesn't have it but all C16 UK spec 99 MY cars do. If yours has, wondering if this was then an option fitted?

Not on my options list.
It's standard equipment isn't it?
I think this may clear it up.
Here is an extract from a letter written to and from the Assembly floor in Stutgart. Dated 1998
Traktionskontrolle ist keine Standard ist es nicht Ja, es ist.

Hi Clive
thanks so much for the words of advice..funny too..lol
about the 928 i had. i got pretty much swapped it last october for the 996 plus some cash but almost couldnt let it go..it was an absolutely gorgeous thing and had plenty of power...would easily keep up if not overtake at higher speeds, my 996 c2! despite being a heavy weight!
But the running costs i reckon would make a 996 tt seem like a bargain..lol
Drank fuel like nothing on earth and like a few shots of oil on a regular basis, but still charmed you when you got in...ive got loads of nice pics i can mail to you if you send me your email...funny thing is that that car is for sale now on pistonheads for 14.5k..wish i could afford the two..
regards
peter
