Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Big Bob's Yellow Peril 996 C2 has been sold. Phil Raby did a good job for me through these difficult times for second hand Porsche. I can now relax and get on with enjoying the Guards Red 997 GT3. Regards Big Bob :bye:

POST 2Original post

This is a sad loss for the 911uk 996 world. A difficult time for us all. :bye: Please collect your thoughts and spend a moment or two of forum inactivity to reflect on the loss of this dear Yellow Porker.

POST 3Original post

Don't think you should have sold it... buying a 993 and lovely classic 911 would have been a better (dream) option then you would have a full set!!! More piccies of that gorgeous 997 please

POST 4Original post

I thought a 993 was a lovely classic 911? loving the GT3, :worship:

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes adeymars I am sad to see it go  I loved that car and it was perhaps fundamental in reorientating my thoughts and convincing me of the very genuine contribution that Porsche has made in creating a sports car that does "exactly what it says on the tin :thumb: " It took me a long time to even consider a Porsche (about 40 years in fact ld: ). I came from a time when British Sports Cars :worship: were a force to be reckoned with. However at a time when I was thinking about buying the current Aston V8 Vantage (I've had a real one as well as many other Astons) Top Gear had the Stig :worship: drive a 997 Porsche 2S, an Aston V8 Vantage and a BMW M6 on the I.O.M. The Stig :worship: blew the others away with the Porsche. Now I had to take notice. So I did a dip into the Porsche world with a very nice low mileage Speed Yellow 996 Carrera 2 from OPC Wilmslow. I was tempted at the time by a 996 GT3, but my research questioned whether this would provide the true everyday useability that any car I own must encompass. Having got my Carrera 2 which HAD TO BE IN SPEED YELLOW  , I then wanted more so one thing lead to another, with Power and Body Upgrades courtesy of the Porsche Shop. Unfortunately then the Autocar Report on the 997 GT3 came out with the "Banner - 5 Stars are not enough" I started to think, could I live with the 997 GT3 as a daily user :?: As the articles and owners experience of the 997 GT3 rolled in, it showed that this car was a viable daily user, and definitely more so than the 996 GT3 that it replaced. When I found a Guards Red 997 GT3 at OPC Sutton Coldfield with a spec to die for 8) I knew I had to have one. I would have preffered the colour to be Speed Yellow, but as hitherto Red was always my colour of choice, I was hooked. Now other people have suggested in this thread that I should have kept it and then added a 993 to the Big Bob Garage. Yes there were times when the car did not sell that I thought shall I just keep it  . However the philosophy of the Big Bob Garage is that one type of car will not do all the jobs: 1) I have an Merc ML420 CDI because I need to carry 5 people and a Great Dane as part of daily living 2) I have a Merc SL500 because I enjoy sunshine top down motoring in comfort  . I do not like Rag Tops :x so no to Porsche. 3) I have a modified Smart Roadster Coupe' because its an ideal low cost run about that's fun to drive, and does not rub my fortunate circumstances in the faces of disadvantaged people  I work with in the community as a volunteer in many roles . 4) I have a fast Porsche because it is an affordable Supercar, and I've always had one of those! So that is the lengthy but sad reflection on my loss of a beloved 996 Yellow Porker. (I still think that the 996 front styling is better than the 997. I like the faired in headlight treatment which looks more slippery even if it is not on the Cd rating :nooo: ) Best Regards Big Bob :bye:

POST 6Original post

I always enjoy your well thought writting Big Bob  and I am looking forward one day to meet you (and see your lovely cars)

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Most kind of you theogor :thumb: . I've actually now signed up for the Porsche Club so that might facilitate a meet. I'm located on the outskirts of Southampton in Yachty :nooo: Country on the Hamble River. Best Regards Big Bob :bye:

POST 8Original post

Your post above Big Bob has certainly made me think about what I want to do when buying a Porsche. I was initially wanting a "must have" dream one but now I am thinking of "dipping my toe in" and maybe getting a C2 and seeing how I like it then experience a few different ones. I might as well experience a few different ones and appreciate the different characteristics of them rather than just going all out and buying a GT3 or turbo as a first Porsche. Of course it might be a different story when I actually come to the point of being able to buy one!

POST 9Original post

Big Bob, great write up there and some useful tips, liking the collection of cars you have there dude, and most def the choice of Porsche was the right one! Enjoy her and as the sunshine is out recently i wouldnt even be torn to choice to take the Porsche out for a cruise rather than the merc cab. uh: a GT3 in an Ostentatious colour is simply bliss  but to be honest we need more pics

POST 10Original post

Yes adeymars I am sad to see it go I loved that car and it was perhaps fundamental in reorientating my thoughts and convincing me of the very genuine contribution that Porsche has made in creating a sports car that does "exactly what it says on the tin " A wonderful post,Bob which requires reading many times to fully realise the full content. Quite a car collection you have you must be very proud of all of them. I set my target many many years ago to one day own a Porsche this realised, I now have a yearning for a TT. This after only one drive. I do not have a yearning for anything else how ever exotic or dreamful just that one car regardless of how fortune may favour me. I do not regret my c2 purchase and still enjoy every drive, glance or polish even.I do not wish it away and have a TT in it's place it is that functional and exciting every day of the week in wind, rain sleet and even snow. However,it will have to leave to make way for the replacement.Whenever that may be. I agree with your view on the front end. The facelifted 996 is,for me,a clearly a marvel in design. I tip my hat to an owner who selects yellow for his body work only to find his collection is complemented with a red 997GT3. Scary selections for most but the content of your post defines why you own a Porsche It is cleary for you. The 997 or 993 is not for me but I would never compare the three it's each to his own.

Adeymars, as Mr Darcy said to Mr Bingley in Pride and Prejudice, when Darcy told him to have his way with Jane Bennett, "go to it". No not Jane the TT :thumb: Regards Big Bob :bye:
