Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi Guys, How does the eBay Japanese bezel kit look in comparison to the factory finish on the CDR-24 and the rest of the OEM dash trim? Is it an exact match? Close? I did a search, couldn't find too many pics that closely show a decent comparison. If anyone has some close up pics, I would greatly appreciate viewing them. I have the CDR-24 without Bose, and would like to install the Avic D3, but I wouldn't be willing to use the Japanese kit if it wasn't an exact match. Best, Tim

POST 2Original post

http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-electronics/9953-possible-speed-sensor-wire-cayman.html Tresex says it is a perfet match. Do a search for "avic". There are plenty of pictures of the kit installed.

POST 3Original post

I think even the pickiest of folks will be happy with the match. My only gripe with it is that it doesn't attach very rigid. It floats a *lot* on its little springy mounts before you reattach the factory side pieces, and even then you can move it with your fingers some. This is around an AVIC-Z1, anyway. I think that's easily remedied with some of that thick double sided tape (the stuff that's like a heavy duty foam that's tacky on both sides) in the right place on the back (out of sight), though. It's worth noting that the kit comes not only with the bezel, but also the main part of the harness that you need as well as an adapter cable to make the Porsche antenna plug match up with a normal stereo. --Donnie

POST 4Original post

Thanks. I checked out the pics, but still can't determine if the match is close enough for my taste. Is the aftermarket bezel plain silver or does it have the exact same OEM grayish, speckle finish? Best, Tim

POST 5Original post

Looks like exactly the same finish to me. Feels the same. I've seen as much variance between two OEM interior pieces as between this and the rest of my interior. --Donnie

POST 6Original post

Thanks, Donnie. Greatly appreciate your help. How do the Avics compare; D3, Z1, Z2?

POST 7Original post

The Z2 is just an updated Z1, not a ton of difference. I'm honestly not sure about the D3 as I've never used one, but I'm fairly certain the Z1/2 is at least a little better as it's more expensive with a longer feature list. *shrug* I have the Z1/2 in several vehicles now and in some of them have XM, iPod, bluetooth, etc, so I went with one in the Cayman just to keep it all the same. I didn't do any of the add-ons in the Cayman as I didn't really need them, but I may still do XM as I've gotten quite used to it. --Donnie

POST 8Original post

Interesting. I've never been very happy with the Z1/2 iPod interface due to the speed, but I didn't realize the D3 was better in that regard. I actually just went with an Aux interface in the Cayman for the iPod because navigating on the iPod itself is just so much easier anyway. Hmmph. Perhaps I'll look into the D3 (or whatever they are up to then) when I need my next head unit... --Donnie

POST 9Original post

Yeah, it's a completely different kit on the D3... when the Z2 came out, people were actually expecting them to fix the Z1/ipod problems. That didn't happen though... I suppose when the Z3 comes out, they might have it ironed out?
