Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'pump' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'pump' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check around though' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

After checking around though, it doesn't seem to be coming from the rubber pipe itself (near the CAT), but from just above it.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Guys, just pulled up at my friends shop, and walked around to the back of the car and seen yellowish watery fluid leaking from the back of the car. Got down on my knees and coolant was leaking out at quite a rate.
After checking around though, it doesn't seem to be coming from the rubber pipe itself (near the CAT), but from just above it. Is this where the pump is situated? I couldn't really see due to confined space?
I thought it may be the pipe initally as i hit a plasterboard in the middle of a dual carriageway (couldn't avoid it, cars either side) on the way to my friends shop, and was thinking that it could have dislodged the pipe. But from looking at the pipe itself, it doesn't look as though it has moved or split.
And from thinking further back, i've noticed the temp guage fluctuate slightly at motorway speeds recently. Not drastically, but it would go down to about 80degC for a while at 70mph before returning back to the normal 90degC.
Were these signs of a fault?
Any suggestions? Expensive repair?
The car didn't reach excessive temps and it's been left sitting at my friends shop before i go collect it later on tonight. It's only a mile or so from my house so should be ok to drive it home once topping up the fluid right?
Any help would be great!

Let your engine cool down, fill the header tank with water and then start her up. Be prepared to take the air filter out as this may be hiding the source of the leak. :?:

Cheers Rhenders, she's back home now tucked up in the garage. Will have a proper check on it tommorow. Had a quick look under it again, and i thnk the pump may be the culprit...

99% chance if its leaking at the back of the car that it will be a slit coolant tank - the plastic one on the left you fill it at. They are well known to become brittle in the heat of the engine bay and common fault on the 996. See if it's coming from up there.....
Good luck.
Mine started leaking coolant from the back of the engine, the water pump was failing and leaking intermittently. If you get underneath with a torch you should be able to trace the trail of either wetness or crystallised coolant up to the point of the leak. New pump £350 fitted. Previously had a coolant tank also as the original split as Jeff suggested.
Hi guys,
Just a quick update. It was the pump that was the culprit. Just ringing around to try and find the best price for the part and then will be getting my mechanic to fit it.
Cheers for the help lads,
