Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

In my opinion, and this is one shared by many fellow cayman owners who appreciate the classic, timeless lines of the Cayman.... The Cayman is the best looking current model porsche. It earns this title by having a better, smoother rear than the 911. The 911 has an obnoxious, conspicious, 'crate-grill' end that only adds to the rear deformity by breaking the silky lines at speed. In addition to this, it reveals a horrid 'concertina-accordion' type rubber under belly - similar to pleated skin. The only way out on a 911, is getting a turbo, gt1/2/3 , or the more affordable aerokit. The Cayman has a smooth, elegant dispostion with the spoiler retracted. The downside; its rear end appears to terminate prematurely. this weakens its 'Fat *** syndrome' which we all love! [eg in Z4 M Coupe,350Z,Aston, E type Jag, ...] There is a way out.... I have found that our Caymans look timeless, sporty, and PERFECT when the spoiler is neither up / down! The car is simply outstanding when the spoiler is midway! - To be more precise..... Manually adjust the spoiler such the the silver beam that cause it to rise, are no longer visible i.e . the spoiler is held up by only 2 black beams. Try this , [you may prefer it just a centimeter or 2 below this level]. Now observe the car from any possible angle/height from the rear, ....this complements the car perfectly. *** My problem is: How do I disable the spoiler, so that it stays in the position? When manually fixed to the 'perfect position' it maintains this well , - until I dwell onto 120KMPh, then it rises to its 'gorky' self. Manual overide with the switch is not permanant . It resets when the car is restarted etc. I find myself playing with the switch too often. Its become like a sunroof tilt button. Cars look best with the sunroof tilted up just a little. It gives the car attitude. I alway have to tilt sunroofs when I am in a car that has 1. So does every1 I know. anyway.... I thought about removing the fuse that controls the spoiler>>>> but it also controls other items So do any of you know an easy, safe, reversible way to deactivate the spoiler? Thank you.

POST 2Original post

the spoiler that Ken as comes with extensions since it is wider and sits higher than the stock spoiler. Add an extensions so it sits where you want it to so it will always return to that position. If you don't want it raising higher than where you set it then just don't drive over 75. Dealerships can deactivate the spoiler for you though

POST 3Original post

Or you could just set it and unplug it, but it will give you a notice message when you hit 75.

POST 5Original post

The spoiler is an aerodynamic device which was carefully designed for its function (and it is functional), with form a secondary consideration. If the look you desire is more important than high speed stability, have at it.

POST 6Original post

Dan is right. That would be "form over function" and defeats the purpose of owning such a high performance car.

POST 7Original post

I've got a TechArt Type 1 rear spoiler that I'm going to add, giving it the double wing look. I agree that the back end of the CS just doesn't quite look right - the TechArt spoiler looks much better imo and although I haven't seen data proving it, should still reduce lift with the standard spoiler retracted.

POST 8Original post

Can you get techart to provide some aero data? Several have tried to no avail and since the front and rear spoilers are tied together so closely it would be great info for those considering such a modification who also want to push the performance envelope. Of course if it just for looks who cares?
