Suggestion

I can't use the key remote to do it (like it says in the car's manual) because the shipping company will be unlocking and locking the doors themselves (they drive it on/off the boat, and on/off the semi for delivery).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have to ship my Cayman soon and the shipping company recommends deactivating the alarm to reduce the chances of the battery dying. I can't use the key remote to do it (like it says in the car's manual) because the shipping company will be unlocking and locking the doors themselves (they drive it on/off the boat, and on/off the semi for delivery). I need a more permanent solution until I take delivery of the car again. I've tried several searches on this but haven't found previous posts...if there is, please let me know! Thanks

POST 2Original post

i can't imagine any problem with the battery whatsoever. how long is the actual shipping process going to take? i've left my car unattended for a week, doors locked, and had no problems at all.

POST 4Original post

You might want to contact your dealer about his and see what they can do. When the cars are shipped to their final destinations after being built, the ECU s put into a kind of "sleep mode" which allows the cat to be driven on and off shipping vessels and trucks, but really nothing more. they are "awakened" either at the port of entry or by the dealer before delivery... maybe you can have a dealer do this for you - then have the car shipped directly to a dealer near you on the receiving end, and have the wake-it-up for you. brad

POST 5Original post

2 months is a loooong time. When the cars are shipped from the factory there is a battery cutoff connected to the car with a "reconnect" cable running outside the trunk. That is removed during the PDI. So yes, the car will eventually enter its sleep mode after a while, but that still drains the battery. It needs to be disconnected. I suggest you contact your dealer and ask if they can reconnect the Porsche cutoff taken from a new car. If not, you can temporarily install a purchased readily available battery disconnect switch, well insulated and wired to sit outside the trunk.
