For the record, I know Ian and have bought parts from him, both Forge and Samco, and would happily recommend anyone to contact him for any of the above.

So the very many 996T/GT2 owners running big boosts with Forge hoses are also deluded as well as being mad now also.

If you are running higher than std boost then consider using the yellow springs.

But of course Gemballa use Samco hoses because they are the right shade of blue.

I was just wondering if anyone has fitted Samco hoses on their 996 Turbo, i know Design 911 sell their own brand but I really wanted to fit Samco's as i have used these on other vehicles i have owned over the years and never had any trouble.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone has fitted Samco hoses on their 996 Turbo, i know Design 911 sell their own brand but I really wanted to fit Samco's as i have used these on other vehicles i have owned over the years and never had any trouble. :?:
I'd use the Forge units - 1/2 the price and just as good. Just make sure you buy new rubber "O" sealing rings from the OPC. You may want to fit the Forge DV's also as the plastic Bosch units are crap after a few years of use. The F-pipe is inc in the hose set. Forge do a tuning kit for the DV's(coloured springs + shims). If you are running higher than std boost then consider using the yellow springs. If not, use the std green ones in the DV's supplied.
You will need to pop the rear PU off to do the job correctly.
Im sorry but you would have to be mad to compare Forge hoses (SiliconHoses.com) made in China to the top quality Samco hoses made here in the UK.
Whilst Forge are indeed excellent with their alloy products (trust me I have history with them!), I feel that the policy of buying in Chinese imported hose is a flawed idea.
Put the Samco hoses next to ANY other hoses (SFS etc) and they will blow them away. You definitely get what you pay for. I am a retailer of these items and have hands on experience of comparing Samco hoses with like for like kits from other manufacturers.
If you compare them side by side you will see the Samco ones are superior in every way including construction, finish and longevity.
No problem(so many/lot's of 996T/GT2 owners must be mad then LOL...inc some that are running 600Bhp and 1.4bar of boost)....just buy the Samco's as the "expert" advise's :thumb:
Nice sarcasm! To say the Forge hoses are as good as Samco for half the price is just ill informed sir. And whilst I dont wish to fall out with you or anyone on here for that matter I feel that I need to point out a few facts which qualify my original comment above.
1) I've been in the performance tuning component industry for over 15 years (retailing silicone hoses for performance cars amongst many other parts!) so indeed I do class myself as an expert. And Ive seen the thickness consistency of some of the "other" hose manufacturers and the case and cord/reinforcement distribution is quite poor. I've also seen hoses fail on T pieces and 3 point junction hoses.
2) I also know 1st hand that the person who runs the Hose operation element of Forge Motorsport is an ex "partner" of Samco (Silflex) who left Samco on not very good terms. He then went to work for Forge after Forge fell out with Samco over other business matters.
3) I personally was Forge Motorsports 1st ever paying customer of car parts way before they even called themselves Forge Motorsport in 1997 .......I bought huge quantities of Forge dump valves, actuators and tanks before any other tuning company in the UK or anywhere for that matter. And was involved the their design and inception. So I am indeed an expert on Forge. And I state again that whilst the Forge Alloy products are very good indeed (and I get on with the guys who run Forge!), their imported chinese hoses are clearly not as good as the Samco ones. And all of the other hoses on the market for these cars will be modelled and copied from the Samco design. Anyone who argues this is seriously deluded Im afraid!
For a car of such a status as a 996 GT2/Turbo I'd seriously not want to put an inferior chinese made hose on it. Your comment "I'd use the Forge units - 1/2 the price and just as good" is seriously incorrect. But hey, its your car and your money. What do I know after all? Im just off to Lidl's to do my shopping, the food there is just as good as M&S and costs half as much. Lol.
"Anyone who argues this is seriously deluded Im afraid! "
So the very many 996T/GT2 owners running big boosts with Forge hoses are also deluded as well as being mad now also. :floor: :floor:
With respect, do me/others on here a favour.....shhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
BTW - the steak pie's at Lidls are a treat/top quality and 1/2 the price of the M&S ones :thumb:
...thought you'd be tearing across the field in your tank today Wattie chasing down peasants....and/or on the RR forum with your wee poke of popcorn
just can't stay away eh!
I'm not going to argue with you (unless thats what you want!). All I'm saying is that you said the Forge Hoses were as good as the Samco ones but for half the cost. And I'm saying put the two hose sets side by side and you will clearly see that the Samco ones are made better. Thats why they are dearer. You buy a Porsche because it is better than an Audi TT....but it is dearer. Or are you saying an Audi TT is as good as a 911? It is half the cost after all.
There is nothing actually wrong with the Forge hoses. They just arent as good as the Samco ones. But of course Gemballa use Samco hoses because they are the right shade of blue. Nothing to do with quality. But at 1.4 bar of boost I suppose it doesnt matter what you put on it. Samco hoses are made in a multi million pound facility with stringent quality control checks. And they are tested to 3 bar.
You have a GT2/996T, so why not fit the best parts on it?
Anyway, I havent come on here to bicker with other Porsche owners, I thought we were here to share knowledge and experience for mutual benefit. I will keep my mouth shut it future as its clear that I havent got a clue what Im talking about. So wont offer my advice again.
ps. Thanks for the money saving Steak Pie tip. I will let you how I get on.
Nothing at all to do with me but!
Forge will provide the spec to the Chinese manufacturer who will produce to that exacting spec.
Forge should and would ensure that the spec. and quality is maintained.
Nothing wrong with the Chinese. They just work harder for less hence the price. Form and function.
Life cycle test evidence and failure reports may be a better way of putting a point across.
On a more serious point, Lidl
This shop sell screen wash from the same suppiler who supply Porsche half the price and still as good.
And the Pies-German quality as well!
Bet M an S follows Woolworth before Lidl.
Good to know that Forum members are surrounded by experts each in their own field.
We are so fortunate.
Make up now breatheren make up! :hand: :whiteflag:
Lol, I agree that M&S will go through the hoop before Lidl's do. In my local town our Lidls is rammed to the brim and the carpark is always full. Yet M&S in Gloucester is virtually deserted in weekdays.
About the Forge thing, Im sure the Chinese do work hard. But Id rather pay a bit more and support the guys who work here. If we don then the economy will collapse.
Ive sold Samco stuff for many years and regularly see other makers copy the patterns and its just not as good.
I thought the Ford & Vauxhall forums were bad! Maybe Im being a bit snobby by thinking dearer is better. But ive seen the products side by side. Perhaps I need my eyes testing. Or imagined they were better.
I will make up if he will. I nearly deleted my membership lol.
Oh well!
So come on Wizard show some love.
It's all about gentle debate and opinion.
Hell I was nearly wrong once  (Not that anyone is wrong here!)
It may be interesting to see which product Turbonator will buy now!
:?:
Lol.
Im pretty clued up on the parts I sell. The Forge hoses do look nice and glossy but the Samco's are clearly made to a higher quality. And I think the higher cost is justified.
I could even save you guys some money on bits. I mean a few of you have been having the Mobil 1 off me at 26 quid a shot!
But love is good!
Just to add to this that Ian really does know what he's talking about, he actually is an "expert" in these matters - so Wizard chill out and ask yourself if its the chinese made Forges or Samco's that are supplying F1 and WRC etc etc....
at the end of the day, no one is saying the Forge hoses wont do the job, but you should also not take so much offence when someone says that the Samco's are better.
For the record, I know Ian and have bought parts from him, both Forge and Samco, and would happily recommend anyone to contact him for any of the above.
