Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

didn't say so in the rules....but my boyfriend still had to use a lot of the map that was included in our packet....hum..and the trivia answers came from "my cd" remember?
Leading evidence: 'Use tomtom' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use lot of the map' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. i just made a 3000 mile trip with my wife and cs--i used the navigation for the first time and liked it very much--i might have missed a merge without the friendly reminders--i also had paper maps--i wouldn't have gone on the trip without the paper--the paper maps gives you the big picture while the navigation does not--i traveled over 4 states

Porsche Navigation and Mapquest as well as most OE in car systems all use the same Navteq database.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This will be my first navigation system.
Are they more reliable with better routes than online maps such as Mapquest and Yahoo Maps?
I might be making a 1000+ mile trip. Are maps still required or do these navigation systems handle everything perfectly?

The Nav works very well. However, be aware it does not always plot the shortest and/or fastest route. Instead much like MapQuest, Google Maps, etc... it wants to take the biggest/major highways all the way.
Porsche Navigation and Mapquest as well as most OE in car systems all use the same Navteq database.
NAVTEQ: Home
. The differences are in how much of the database is on the disk and the exact routing logic in the system. In my experience, Mapquest does a better job since all of the database is used and the car based systems do not have access to as many minor roads. Especially in rural areas. The online database is also more up to date than in disk in your car.
the porsche navigation disk is nationwide, correct?
i just did some browsing on the dvd disks available and i noticed a lot of region disks (ie. east coast only, ohio region, west coast, etc.)
Should be nationwide. Also there are options under the Navi controls that let you select how you want your routes picked (i.e. major highways, fastest route, shortest distance). All these things can be changed.
I don't want to have to look at, or remember what the written instructions said the last time I looked. Audible instructions combined with the pictographic prompts in the instrument cluster beat written instructions in my view.
Didn't complete my thought there. The websites and aftermarket units are updated more frequently. I have a Nuvi that I use and it works very well. I use it even when I travel as opposed to being stuck in my car.
Get the PCM. It's a good system - not the best, but way more than adequate. MapQuest will never be able to display your position in real-time showing all the streets as you approach them. And let's not forget about re-routing. Returning from upstate NY yesterday left me in a 25 mile jam on the NJ Turnpike. Exited the highway the first chance I got and let the system reroute and guide me home on roads I didn't even know were there. Priceless.
what? does that disqualifies me cause i used the tomtom? didn't say so in the rules....but my boyfriend still had to use a lot of the map that was included in our packet....hum..and the trivia answers came from "my cd" remember? lol. i was bumping to it the whole way to vegas. p.s. ken do you still have my packet for the rally? i forgot to get it from you at the dinner...i would like to keep it for my scrapbook if you haven't thrown it away...thanks.
I'm just giving you a hard time, no you don't have to return your reward. As for the packets, they actually got pitched today since people hadn't asked us for them. Probably in the PH incinerator by now.... sorry... which car# were you again?
I had 1st gen PCM in my '00 Boxster S, I've got 2nd gen PCM in our ')$ Cayenne Turbo, and the current PCM in my '06 Cayman S. Definately worth it in my opinion, as it gets me around all sorts of unfamiliar cities, and gives fairly accurate ETAs even around town, but it's not perfect. My pet peeve is that frequently if a road becomes divided by a median or looses it's median, the nav frequently gives an incorrect course change ("Take the next Right") where there really is none, or fails to point out an intersection where the route itself turns, like the stop light in Boulder City NV where you must turn left to go to the dam, even though you're still on the same NV route, and the nav says nothing. Looking at the map clears up these inconsistancies.
Agreed. I don't carry maps, but do find it irritating that most nav systems will tell you "You have reached your destination" when you're a block away and still don't know which side of the street its on!
AHA!
S'ok, I took second with my PCM! And, tomtom or not, you're one heck of a driver :burnout:
Fortunately, Google on my Treo did! Unfortunately, by the time I found addresses for all 4, programmed the locations, looked at where each was with reguard to the major roads, then programmed a "tour" with each destination in the proper order, I didn't leave PH until 2:50 pm, then promptly got stuck behind SWAT on Paradise!!!! :wall:

Well, 3rd place went to a PCM as well. We were not able to find 2 of the addresses in the PCM so we passed the turn for Casino Monte Ligo, by the time we figured it out we were way off line. Guess I need a new disk especially in Vegas it is changing so fast my 2 year old disk can't keep up.

garmin
I bought the navigation system ofr my cs and honestly iot does not compare to my Garmin 350 nuvi. But it is far far bette rthan the navigation system I got in my new Mercedes C300 sport. If the Porsche is a 10, then the Mercedes is a 6 at best, love the mouse type dial up though, but just not detailed enough. Have always been told German navigations system sucks, and they are right..
