To be honest I might have been inclined to push OPC's for an even better price but following my recent 48k service experience where Hatfield tried to charge me an extra £100 for changing a front sidelight bulb :frustrated: , and their inability to slacken a calliper bleed nipple

So when he installed it with a new one he changed the position slightly to see if it would stop the leak.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Following recommendations from Richard H I booked my C4S in for a new clutch and RMS with Wrightune near Reading.
The price was very competitive :judge: with other Indies - I paid just over £700 versus £1250 quoted by a variety of OPC's :bandit: . To be honest I might have been inclined to push OPC's for an even better price but following my recent 48k service experience where Hatfield tried to charge me an extra £100 for changing a front sidelight bulb :frustrated: , and their inability to slacken a calliper bleed nipple
c: when they tried to refresh the brake fluid, which I ended up doing myself, I just didn't have the inclination to negotiate with them :x .
Tony Wright booked me in quickly and finished the job in a day.
The clutch feels much better and it isn't slipping anymore. Even better, my sump is now dry - let's see how long it lasts. The important point here is that Tony could see that I already had the latest 997 seal installed but it was leaking. So when he installed it with a new one he changed the position slightly to see if it would stop the leak. Now thats what you pay for, experience and knowledge :thumb: .
I thank Tony for his excellent work :worship: and Richard for his recommendation :thumb: .
cheers ray
Hi Ray
Im going there!!! when i get that done i will mention yr name so he treats you even better next time..lol
Is he happy doing everything i.e service, suspension, geometry?
I thought that the 997 seal is meant to pretty much stop it? maybe the new position will! I wanted to take it to autofarm for the clutch and rms as their meant to be the best for solving the rms issue..but what would they do that Tony doesnt?
cheers
peter
I had my RMS changed for the new type along with my clutch by a local indie.
The Tech showed me the new one it had metal inserts inside it.
He said it was a sticky mess behind the crankshaft and this type shoul fix it.
He is OPC trained and gave me confidence in his knowledge(Carrera GT trained as well)
Good look Peter, get the full run down whilst your car is surrounded by experts. :mechanic:
Cheers Peter, chat to Tony and he'll tell you what he can do. I know he prepares racing Porsches so I can't imagine there isn't much he doesn't do.
He's close to Cholsey railway station, you can change at either Reading or Didcot and he'll drop you off at the station! :thumb:
Ray
I'm lucky, Tony is just a few miles down the road from me and does the work on my C4S and my 993 before it.
Top guy and always a pleasure to deal with.
Its good also that he's encouraging the new generation by taking on and training an apprentice who seems equally passionate and dilligent about things Porsche.
Very happy with the CC retrofit he did. Professional and conciencious.
Wouldn't know 4 hours of dash, SW, carpets, ECU and fuse box stripping had occured.
Nice bloke and as mentioned genuinely passionate and knowlegeable. Just ask him about his classic RS he is restoring to its former glory. Or for that matter, the intricacies of any Porker gearbox from the last forty years.
