Does anyone else with Borla have an issue?
A short while after installing a borla cat back (did not touch o2 sensors), my check engine light came on..
the car is under warranty and
porsche
has replaced everything that could possible be bad... they have also reflashed the ECU.
the only thing left is the cat back exhaust... how the heck could it cause a CEL? Not ebough back pressure?
Is this normal?
if so.... who wants to buy a borla exhaust in damn good condition? lol
until you pull the failure codes from the ecu I wouldn't blame the borla ...
... and presumably the dealer would have done that.
either they have a specific code to work with ... in which case they shouldn't have shotgunned everything.
... or they don't have a code to work with.
I have a borla exhaust and was getting an intermittent CEL w/o a code being saved. had nothing to do w/ the borla, and went away when I replaced the gas cap. it was $15 at pelicanparts and cheaper than other parts to throw at the problem.
just to see if your dealer is playing straight w/ you take the car to an auto parts store w/ a code reader -- many will dump the codes for free. see if they can find something. if they do then your dealer is playing games until you pull the borla.

P2196, (O2 sensor sig, Stuck Rich Bank 1, Sensor 1)
My dealer is very reliable and is not charging me for anything since i have warranty. I told them ill handle it myself since they tried everything they could under warranty.
they gave me brand new headers/cats, new o2 sensors and a reflash and drove my car for the weekend... problem still exists
OK - I'd start w/ a stuck fuel injector on bank #1. Or a wiring harness problem from that O2 sensor upstream -- walk it w/ your fingers feeling for a break/kink, look for something crushed. unplug and replug every connector you come to from the O2 sensor to the ECU itself.
EDIT: do the same w/ the wiring harnesses for the 3 fuel injectors of bank 1. Easily crushed on an engine R&R if that could have happened w/ your car at some time.
I was being skeptical of a dealer replacing everything ... as that's literally everything upstream of the O2 sensor, including the engine and its sundry parts. And I'd still be skeptical of that dealer -- replacing cats has little to do w/ an O2 sensor stuck @ one end of its range. They're guessing.
iirc the O2 sensors don't sample outside air thru the body, its via the outer sheath covering the sensor's wires, which runs from the sensor back ... make sure it isn't kinked, crushed. choked off.
you could even temporarily re-route the sensor wiring so that it's as smooth a run as you can get. take your code scanner and clear the OBDI codes and refire the engine and see if it comes back.
some of these codes will persist even if the fault goes away (is fixed) ... they need to be cleared to know if the problem really is gone.

Borla® - Performance Exhaust Systems & Induction
Lindsay, I have tried that multiple times with no luck. As of right now,
Porsche
and Borla are offering no assistance.
I hate to say this, but I don't believe it's the Borla exhaust. I have the Borla race exhaust, IPD plenum, and a
sprint booster
. Been running on it for four months without an issue. There has to be something else causing the issue.
Thank goodness the dealer was nice enough to work with you though.
I have a Borla on a
2006 Cayman S
, the only issue I had was. Error code po456, which was a gas cap, issue. All good now.
