You're not at the mileage for it, but belts should be replaced every 10 years.

My right rear strut mount is also due so will change both mounts and related parts on the rear.

Did your major servicing include replacing the serpentine belt?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all, lurker with his first post.
I've a 2010 Cayman 987.2S PDK Sport chrono all stock and no PSE. I'm thinking of keeping her for quite a while longer and would like to give her a bit of a refresh. If you have any suggestions to what I should do and what I should look out for maintenance wise for a 10 year old and more Cayman, I'd much appreciate your input and guidance. She will be 10 years old next April and currently has 63000 kilometers (not miles) on her. Im not a tracker but would like a tad more sound and power if possible. Major servicing including PDK oil change, sparks was done last Dec.
I'm thinking of the following:
1. Carnewal GT Exhaust
2. Carnewal 200 CEL cats
3. FVD tune after the carnewal goes in
4. Some race stripes
I'm not looking to lower as being on the wrong side of 50 and with a bad back from totalling a 997 a while back makes getting in a out a bit of a challenge already.
Please do add suggestions and also advise what I need to look out for in a Cayman this age moving forward.
Finally, I'm not planning to dyno so what can I realistically expect bhp and torque wise from doing 1 to 3?
Thanks again.
Another thought I have is to have a straight through done with my stock muffler (don't know how but am told it can be done), get the Carnewal 200 cell cat and the FVD tune. I believe power wise, it should be the same as if I used the Carnewal GT exhaust as the muffler doesn't add much power only sound (from what I read)?
Or going to a 200 cell cat while staying with stock muffler will, apart from some bhp and torque gains, also result in a louder exhaust note?
This novice needs your experience.
Thanks.
Did your major servicing include replacing the serpentine belt? You're not at the mileage for it, but belts should be replaced every 10 years.
If it hasn't been replaced yet, that's a great opportunity to upgrade to an under drive pulley for a tiny bit more power.
Stripes will definitely add +5 hp per stripe. So add a bunch!
Noted on the serpentine belt. Under drive pulley? I need to read up on that.
As for stripes, what if I go for a full wrap? Double stock power? I see from your avatar you must have added on 50% on stock power with your stripes... LOL
Err...I think it's a smaller diameter pulley -- at least it was for the 987 models, IIRC -- that requires grinding off a boss on the engine case to fit.

BTW - the under-drive pully also means your alternator isn't working as it should, water pump isn't pumping as much water around as it should, and your power steering is going to be harder. Porsche actually does have engineers who sometimes look at and calculate what should work, then they build it and test it. Underdrive pulleys seem to be mostly marketing.
HI All,
Just wanted to give an update on my refresh programand to thank all who have helped so far.
Have done the cosmetic mods... added stripes to the car (guarantees 50 bhp
) and carbon wrap to the spoiler, front splitters and base of wing mirrors.
Need to go back to have the now black painted Cayman S emblem centralized and will do that when the stock of the brushed silver grey films come in as the top of the wing mirrors will be wrapped with it.
I have also changed my hazy tail lamps to LED 718 style lamps. Not Porsche original of course
. Super easy to install (45 mins?) with an 8mm Ikea spanner .... I think it really updates the look of the car and coincidentally matches my stripes extremely well.
Will be refreshing my ceramic coating in Dec to complete the cosmetic refresh.
Will be ordering my FVD tune from Rhonda soon. Have decided to forgo the 200 cats given the cost benefit return (yes, the tune is not much better) and live with my local modded muffler with some kinda of internal bypass. New Sebro front rotors and textar pads will be done in December with Goodridge steel braided brakes lines together with the annual service in December.
Now that Michelin is offering the PS4S in 18s I'll also wait for that to reach my shores and switch to them from my 4 year old PS2s.
Have a great weekend all.
Have confirmed my front brakes need to be changed and have the Brembo rotor pad kit planned for that.
My right rear strut mount is also due so will change both mounts and related parts on the rear. Since I'm doing that, I figured I'll get the 2012 Cayman R springs seeing the shocks on the 2010 Cayman S and 2012 Cayman R are the same shocks so it should be a good match which Porsche intended.
Will have done my FVD tune by Dec as well after the annual servicing.
Still searching for tires as the PS4S in 18s won;t be n my shores anytime soon.
@wmclarenf1
Hope I can reach out to you if you are using which one of these rear light upgrades?
May need your shop contact in Singapore if it's the second light below! Thanks...
Is it this one...
Or is it this one with the curved red LED line inside which looks so hot.. and is a 981 style light?
Ah thanks for the quick reply
I can get the 718 look here too in Malaysia
But inclined towards the 981 look now - Can you please ask your Singapore workshop if they have this model?
Cheers!!!
