Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Received my new
981
styled lights for my
987.2 Cayman S
and got it installed right away!
As the lights for the 987s are getting really old with the newer
981
and
718s
, I decided to go for the plunge despite the hefty price tag and give mine a facelift.
Also to my knowledge, this is the only aftermarket design available for the
987.2
vs the
987.1
where there are more aftermarket design options. I certainly did not get this design to make it a "
981
wannabe", I got it because I loved the fresher look it would give to the aging car.
The lights came in 4 variations (Normal red/Smoked red/ clear smoked/clear) and I chose the red smoked version to go with my Red/Black theme TechArt
Cayman S
.
Fresh from the box! I'm sure these are made in Taiwan. The quality and finish is good and I don't find any major flaws. I got the lights clear wrapped after to protect it from scratches etc.
The design spots the protruding centre wedge which is like the 981 tail lights. It's a nice touch and the protruding part is not too obvious.
Rear view
Rear view in the dark at standing height. You'd realise that there is a line in the middle. However, at lower angles, the outline of the LED is cleaner without the line in the middle (see pic below)
Love the brightness and the nice outline of the LEDs.
Quarter shot
I'm definitely in love with my new lights! It does gives the car a fresher, more aggressive and updated look. I'm sure that it will certainly fool many non car enthusiast that this is a late Porsche model :hilarious:
I'll take more pics sometime with the indicators and reverse light on as I left it out. Stay tuned!
Thanks mate. It's really easy to do it. All you need is just an 8mm wrench to remove the nuts . Basically there are 3 nuts to unscrew to dislodge the headlight. You just unplug it from the connector,
plug
the new one in and screw back the nuts in from behind. It's that easy. Someone made a video YouTube tutorial on it.
i see those on ebay:
Porsche 987 Boxster Cayman 2nd Gen 981 style LED Tail Lights | eBay
a 1,000$ OMG ....
but they look good.
how is the quality and shipping time?
The quality is good and I really love the brake light and turn signal. I'll take more pics and hopefully post a short video.
Agreed on the heavy price but this is the only aftermarket design available for the
987.2
. Afterall, the rear of the car is what most cars look at
I ordered mine through a friend and received it in about 7 working days. I also realised that the prices at design911.co.uk (I have no affiliations with them) is cheaper than eBay but it's best for you to do your own due diligence on the pricing. I'm sure that they get the lights from the same source though.
Thanks mate. Hopefully these pairs will last and justify the high price. After receiving the lights, I kind of understood the price tag because the internals and overall design has been changed to fit the
987.2
.. talk about R&D!
Those lights really do look fantastic! Honestly the quality of the OEM
981
lights is not that great. (Just shake one a little and hear all the "loose" things inside rattle...) And although the
981
lights are priced less than these, as said, this is the only game in town. For some, the K-note will be money well spent! Lookin' good!
Thanks for the compliment guys.
I gulped at the price tag when it was first released and took a long time to consider. But as I mentioned, this is the only aftermarket option available for the
987.2
so I took the plunge.
It is DOT approved and comes with 1 year warranty so I guess the long term reliability will show after a couple of years.
Will try to take some pics with the indicators, reverse, brake light, and hopefully a short video this weekend!
thanks for sharing, that looks great fd3s, I'm tempted too....
a few quick questions:
is this JTec brand items?
how is the light consistency along the main "red line"?
how is brightness of the iights, brake & signal lights?
Hey bro, I'm sure that this is the JTEC brand after googling even though I didn't even know what brand I was buying at first.
The light consistency of the red line/outline is good and I could say nearly as good as the
981
OEM. When viewed at a lower height (instead of standing), the line is more defined.
The brightness of the light is good and could clearly be seen even at daytime. I think my favourite part of the light is the turn indicators.
Will try to post pics/vid this weekend!
Went out with tonight with a friend's
GT4
and I took the chance to do a side by side comparison of the lights.
The
981
styles lights do look really similar with the
981
and the brightness of the
LED
are the same. I noticed that the oem lights are more defined due to the width of the
LED
. Other than that, the quality is about 90% of the oem.
I forgot to take a pic with the brake lights on. And as requested, I'll take some pics during the daytime.
thanks for the kind words mate. That's a TechArt spoiler. I don't think it would fit the
987.1
as the rear bumper design is slightly different because of the rear light design. I have seen someone with a
987.1
change to a
987.2
bumper but not too sure if its worth the hassle. Alternatively, you could also look at other designs available for the
987.1
.. there are many available in the market
Hello

Is this light posible to instal?
I have a diferent light conector on car.
Thanks
BR
Adam
Hi Adam, thanks for the compliment. Installation was very easy and did not take long as it is just
plug
and play. This light is not compatible with your
987.1
as it only fits the
987.2
. Cheers
Hi
Running on 19" Vorsteiner VFF-101s. Won't recommend getting them as they are meant to be fitted on
911s
and not the
Cayman
.
Front tyres 235 +7mm spacers and rears 305 +15mm spacers. Without the rear spacers the wheels wouldn't fit..
Hi, apologies if I have missed it, but could you provide a link to the company that sell these please?
Don't suppose you know if they do similar units for the 987-1?
Thanks
