This is not a probability of success.

There are loads of diagrams on design911, better for prices obviously, but I use auto Atlanta as I find it easier to navigate.

Looks like it should have a spacer to fill the gap but maybe there's a reason for some free play.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just been tidying up the rear diagonal braces that go across from the sills to the underside of the suspension etc. Fairly straightforward - de-rust, respray, new rubber bushes etc) both ends bolt home fine and the mushroom shaped non-threaded stud pushes home fine into the closed box section but the flanged nut that goes on from above to the stud in the brace that passes through the mounting hole just seems to float in mid air without tightening down on top of the brace itself. The stud is only threaded part way down and when the nut is fully home then still a gap between it and the brace of several mms. Can also still see the top of the rubber bush. I'm sure there was no spacer or similar on there when took them off so maybe that's the way they are supposed to be but just doesn't look "right". Have tried to find an exploded diagram of that area but unsuccessfully. Any comments or guidance much appreciated- will teach me to take more notice before stripping down. Apologies if the description is not great but hopefully anyone who has had them off will know what I'm talking about. Many thanks......Ian

POST 2Original post

The 15 mm nut on the brace bar sits in mid air .. its not supposed to lock against anything .. im guessing its there as a safely .. in case it drops off item .. only a guess though ... either way that's correct .

Thanks for both getting back on that. DeMort - yes, sits in mid air but just didn't look very "German Engineering" to me. Looks like it should have a spacer to fill the gap but maybe there's a reason for some free play. Sim996 - great resource, appreciate the link. Might save me having to ask damn fool questions on here in the future!! Cheers..Ian
