This is not a probability of success.

A Becker ipod lead was tested with the existing head CDR32 unit but wouldn't work which was a shame as that option was only £80.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All I have just purchased a 1998 996 which has a PCM SAT NAV installed, I assume that this is series 1 due to the age of the car. I would like to install an IPOD connection, I have tried my IPOD unit whihc I removed from my previous 1999 Boxster but this doesn't seam to work, when I select CD the PCM unit just comes back with a message saying no CD, but this is how I accessed it in my Boxster. Please can anyone help?? Thanks Aaron

POST 2Original post

I presume this has fibre optic connection (orange leads). I have a CDR 23 and fitted the Dension 500, picked up a second hand one off ebay for less than £200 with all the leads. It was straight forward to fit and I put the ipod connection in the centre consol. The unit fitted in the front by the CD changers and the leads were easy enough to feed through. If you search under my user name you should find some other entries about fitting it. It works a treat and with the PCM you should get track display which I don't get on the CDR 23. If you do purchase the unit and need some extra leads or connectors I do have some. It's worth looking on the Dension website, there's lots of info on there.

POST 4Original post

PCM1 doesn't have the fibre optic connectors. I believe that Solisto make an iPod connector for PCM1, so it might be worth checking that out. Edit: Here you go - http://www.solisto.de/en/radios/porsche

POST 5Original post

Hi all. This is my 1st post as a brand new member. I bought a 2001 Carrera 4 a couple of weeks ago. I thought i would add some comments to this thread as I have just been trying to install an Ipod and so hopefully my experience may be of use to someone, somewhere at some point. The car had a Becker CDR32 and cd changer. I couldn't afford the Dension unit but wanted to be able to control the ipod from the head unit. A Becker ipod lead was tested with the existing head CDR32 unit but wouldn't work which was a shame as that option was only £80. Consequentl;y, i've gone for a new aftermarket (Alpine) head unit which does allow the iphone functions to be operated from the headunit and enables phone calls to be made too. The iphone is then hidden away in the little cubby hole under the radio (or centre console if preferred)and connected by a hidden lead. All in total this cost about £250

POST 7Original post

Alternatively, if you'd rather spend £10 instead, I bought an iPhone charger/FM transmitter from eBay. It has a flexible boom and plugs into the cigarette lighter. Divert calls to the PCM1 phone (buy a Pay As You Go SIM for it) and play through your radio. Very little interference (if you select airplane mode after you've diverted the calls) and the road noise from the car disguises any radio hiss. Simples. .... or spend £1500 on an all singing all dancing Kenwood satnav/iPod/stereo system like I just did for the Rangie.
