I assumed it was the poorly sealed sump plate, so dropped the plate at the last oil and filter change, cleaned both surfaces and sealed with the thin bead of the correct Porsche Loctite, let dry for a day, then re-filled.
Leading evidence: 'Clean surfaces and sealed' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'poorly sealed sump plate' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check ims plate and rms' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Originally silk thread was used on the main casings and galleries, and we never, ever fitted head gaskets.

Barely a gasket was used on the entire assembly, it was all done with sealing compounds of one type or another.

Suggestion
When the gearbox is next out, I'll check the IMS plate and RMS.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've attached a couple on photos, I guessing this is from the sump plate sealant, 1 or 2 drops of oil but want it to be right?!
Recently had first oil change 1200 run in, it is under warranty but wondered if anyone else has had a issue from there
If it's at the back of the engine, it could be IMS seal or RMS, it does look fairly clean above though.
If you decide it is the sump use the correct Loctitie 5900 sealant and use it sparingly.
Thanks, it's had new rebuilt engine with RMS etc new. Literally 2 drips of oil, I can take it back to where I had it done and get it sorted
Hate wasting fresh oil tho, but rather have it sealed correctly
As its had a rebuild then it's probably just the sump pan leaking .. not quite enough sealant used .. it happens im afraid ... always a balance between not to much and not enough .
The garage will remove the sump pan , clean it up and reseal .. the oil they will save and it will go back in the car , far too expensive to just dump it .
Strange as it may seem but that's an actual oil leak i would flag up as needing attention .. fresh drips of oil ... That's a leak !
Thanks, was serectly hoping you would reply 🙠I've jacked it up and looks clean up the back, like you said it must have just missed the seal around the back of the plate. I've sent a photo to the garage and he said he will sort it when I get chance to drop it down ðŸ‘
In the meantime I'll keep an eye out for it getting any worse ðŸ‘
Do me a favour ...
When you get it back after repair .. just keep an eye on it .. it should stay bone dry .. if not .. which i very much doubt then contact me .
Mine has a leak at that exact place. I assumed it was the poorly sealed sump plate, so dropped the plate at the last oil and filter change, cleaned both surfaces and sealed with the thin bead of the correct Porsche Loctite, let dry for a day, then re-filled. To be fair, it needed doing as it was a right mess. 2 types of sealant, neither the correct ones, splodged far too much on too.
It still seems to leak a bit. I'm not sure mine is the sump plate, I think it's higher up.
When the gearbox is next out, I'll check the IMS plate and RMS.
Yeah mine was literally a drop, I took it back this morning and he resealed the plate, surely a gasket would have been a better design 🙃.
I had a look and it's dry as a bone underneath, so thankfully it's sorted ðŸ‘
@ YPVS .. several pictures of the area please .... if for no other reason than i still like looking at pictures !
@Gt3Owl .. stick your head under there in a week's time .. if all bone dry then sorted .
Trust me .. loctite 5900 is better than a gasket !
I used to re-build Chieftain tank engines for a living in the early nineties. Barely a gasket was used on the entire assembly, it was all done with sealing compounds of one type or another.
