I Installed an anodized slammer model knob on my 982 and love the shifting action transformation that it made.

It also lowered the shifter by ~20mm, right where I'd want it as though I installed a short shift kit.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have the slammer installed on mine. It's one of their heavier knobs. I think it's a 1.5 pounds? It changes the feel for the better. I have it in combo with the
981
GT4
short shift kit. They have amazing customer service and the shift knob is of amazing quality!

The slammer is one of my narrowed down models. Yes, a massive 1.5 lbs suited to large hands and any shifting technique (overhand/sidehand). Thanks for the pic, looks awesome.
Just a heads up, don't know if it applies to modern gear boxes but when I wanted to put a heavy knob on my first sports car my dad (a master mechanic) said, "don't". It's not good for the gearbox, I can't remember exactly why he said that, it had to do with internal wear, it was more than forty years ago but he was adamant about it not being a good idea.
It used to be that a heavy knob would put subtle pressure on the shift forks and synchro rings, wearing them out. Same reason I was taught to not hold the shift lever while cruising, or leave your foot down on the clutch while waiting, due to Jaguars having carbon throw out bearings. The thought was there was a fixed number of clutch engagements before it baked. Double clutching and rev matching, shifting without the clutch at all became a good method to avoid wearing out the clutch.
I can't adapt to the "slam it in gear" technique. Having had British, Italian and French gearboxes in my past, you always used finesse to get in into gear. I can see using force and speed if you are racing...
That knob in the picture looks very short, I'll bet it needs the weight to shift? But I'll also bet that it's fast?
I haven't noticed to be honest if it's faster or not. The OEM short shift kit requires a bit more effort to shift and the weight of the knob I feel reduces the required effort to shift with the SSK.
There are times where I've unscrewed the knob and the difference in the effort to shift is night and day.

I bought the slammer and it was too heavy for the stock shifter. It just felt extra sloppy. I swapped it for the circuit sphere 100 and it’s great. To me it’s what the shock shifter should have felt like.
I still have the slammer if you’d be interested. You’d still need the adapter kit from Raceseng.

My wife was taught to drive a
911
on the track by none other than Brian Redman. He told her to “hold the shifter like an egg and smoothly move it from one gear to another”. I’m not going to argue with his technique. IMO, slam shifting is a Hollywood inspire technique for the Fast and Furious crowd. Is a former endurance racer, I could never abuse my gearbox that way. We used to follow the “in order to finish first, first you have to finish” approach. To do that you had to take care of your equipment.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I ordered the circuit sphere 100 with custom red textured handle and ring. The added height and relatively light .56 lbs weight should enhance the shifting experience.
I Installed an anodized slammer model knob on my 982 and love the shifting action transformation that it made. It also lowered the shifter by ~20mm, right where I'd want it as though I installed a short shift kit. With 3XL hands, the slammer has a perfect fit in my hands for shifting actions. Their shift knob adapter does permit plenty of flexibility on how high or low you want the shifter. Also, since this weight is not being applied directly to shift forks, I'm not worried about knob's weight.
While I don't own one, I've known the Raceseng team for a long time and have handled my share of knobs. Their attention to detail is great and their quality is outstanding.

I ordered a custom shift knob on November 2 that supposedly takes 6-8 weeks to produce. It shipped yesterday and is scheduled to arrive today. One in the win column for outstanding service. Will post pics after install.
