Coincidentally, I just installed the XAVAX5000, yesterday into my 987

I used the $100 signal converter with this HU and it's great, no issues.

A most adapter is easier, but not by much, I installed the ax5000 a few weeks ago and used the axxess PO90052 most adapter.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

If you have
Bose
, you will need to do one of two things:
1) Get a signal converter box to convert electrical to light
2) Replace the
Bose amp
with a standard 5-channel amp
Thank you for the advice ,
I think the option you offer 1) Get a signal converter box to convert electrical to light
seams to me more easy and cheaper ?
what you will suggest ?
A most adapter is easier, but not by much, I installed the ax5000 a few weeks ago and used the axxess PO90052 most adapter. If I were to do it again, I would have gone the amp route. The HU makes a big difference in sound quality, but it is far more difficult to swap speakers as the
bose amp
uses rather low impedance speakers. Install is rather easy, the bluetooth works better than most modern OE units I’ve had. I can’t speak to radio reception and I wish it automatically swapped to the rear camera on reverse, but thats a minor nuisance I’m too lazy to try to solve.
Yes, I have the
Bose system
and am having an audio shop do my radio swap. They are familiar with the process and have ordered the necessary components.
Understand that if you have
bose
and get the adapter for the
bose
fibre optics your speakers are still going to suck.
I did not want to mess with the fibre optics for various reasons.
If you are a stereo guy.... consider the amp and speaker route right from start.
Its a lot cheaper to learn through others mistakes

I was eyeing this unit as well. Seemed like the best combo of aesthetics and usable volume buttons. Interested to see how it looks installed.
I’m not in a huge rush to replace my stock unit yet. We’ll see if I can hold out until they release a PCCM for the 987.
Secta...
Don't know if you saw this. Looks like it's getting close(r).

Sorry to be nitpicky, but there is a whole section for this question. OP's question has been asked and answered fifty times in the Electronics area.
I just went through this with a no-Name Android head unit to save a few bucks and keep flexibility with software. I now think that was a mistake, and wish I had a
Sony
or
Kenwood
for the extra $200. I have already spent $100 of that "savings" on multiple destroyed faceplate fascia that need to be modded to get it to fit (mine still looks like hell).
I used Spiral Audio's kit (
IX-PR004
) which was surprisingly plug and play. The interfaces plugged right into the stock plugs and zero wiring splices were necessary. This provided dimming, switched and constant power, etc. You'll need a power antenna adapter, available with a Metra installation kit or other. For me, it was about $250 for the head unit and $400 for the installation gear. I took a 5 hour trip with it the other day, and the Nav, radio, 64GB of music on SD card and Pandora tethered to my phone all worked perfectly and sounded much better than stock on the Bose speakers.
Sorry I'm a little late here. I've had this unit in my car for around 2 years now. If I could do it over again I would go a different direction. It has issues. particularly it often drops connection with
android auto
when you put the car in reverse. This means you have to unplug and reconnect your phone pretty much every time you reverse. It also has trouble with many USB memory sticks, and will not read any over 32 gigabytes. Tried updating the firmware to remedy the issue but it will not take the update at all. 0
Do you use
Carplay
or
Android Auto
? If
AA
, does it work wirelessly?
I'm looking to upgrade my 10yr old
Pioneer
with a headunit that lets me view/control my
Samsung
Note 10. I'd prefer wireless
AA
, but I don't know if it is worth the premium price.
Carplay
, but I' believe it can also handle wireless
AA
, It should be in the
Sony
On-line spec's.
It also has a feature that replicate's your phone, and use some apps like Youtube:
"WebLink™ is a lightweight app delivery platform designed especially for in-vehicle use. Using the Android or iOS device connection, it is now possible to mirror your smartphone screen right on the car audio display – for reliable, responsive infotainment anytime on the road"
Hi guys, just stumbled upon this thread. Coincidentally, I just installed the XAVAX5000, yesterday into my 987
Boxster
. The car had already had an Alpine unit installed, so it was pretty much
plug
and play. The fascia was already there. I nearly went with a Chinese Android unit but couldn't find one that would fit the fascia. They were all too big. The only problem I had with the install was that the Alpine unit was Double DIN all the way to the back. The
Sony
is only double DIN at the front, then single DIN to the back of the unit. The Alpine bracket was not designed to work with a radio like this (Double in front Single in back) I put it on as tight as possible. Only time will tell if it rattles loose. I added some padding under it to help support. Will be road testing this week. Fingers crossed!
Last weekend I swapped out the large door speakers as the OEM ones had disintegrated. I'm happy with the sound thus far. My system was Sound Plus, not
Bose
.
Waiting for the reverse camera to come. Got one that replaces the license plate light. I'm really hoping that I don't have the issue that feeshta has with reversing.
Here are some pics of the install.
Another AX-5500 one in case is needed [emoji846]
I had a
Pioneer
and there's a significant sound quality improvement.
I ordered from
Crutchfield
and they give you the option to get it with a custom harness to make install a breeze.
I also have a subwoofer that I believe makes a total difference.

Nice! Out of curiosity, which sub did you install and where?
I’ve been tossing up between a sub or trying to fit some speakers to the shelf behind the seats.
Or both!
