Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The 996T wont display above 1.5bar on the readout, though I believe it can be changed these days, I was running 1.7on some billet turbos, though I did turn it down.
Leading evidence: 'Replace these days, i was' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend plastic ones' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If Markski has recommended the plastic ones, then he should use them, they'll be suitable for his power level I'm sure.

Suggestion
Mine is a built 4.0 running Alpha 3076 turbos, so I won't be using plastic.

Suggestion
A lot of Japanese cars are running around 1.8 bar without issues with leaking DVs?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Currently have Bailey DV on car but they seem to like leaking from screws. Markski hates them and he doesn't like forge either due to same design of screws in top. Suggested the standard but upgraded kaeser 710N. 06A-145-710N.
Any other views, and where is best to buy these. It's an Audi part by looks of it?
Views and comments appreciated.
Thanks
James
Not really sure what the issue is with these DVs to be honest, it's not like 996 Turbos run big boost, even when tuned?
A lot of Japanese cars are running around 1.8 bar without issues with leaking DVs?
How about thread locking the screws on your Bailey's DVs?
You won't get a metal DV without screws on top, they will be needed to fit the components together, so it's not because of the screws themselves, but the individual design.
GFB (Go Fast Bits) are an Australian tuning company who make a quality item for decent money (they were originally a DV manufacturer) I'd personally look at them. The standard plastic ones are ok (and no screws) but higher boost pressures will blow them to pieces, hence aluminium ones will be required for the likes of myself, (which will all be held together with screws).
Bailey are crap though, another 80's throwback, file them with 044 fuel pumps and manual boost controllers, much better stuff nowadays.
When you say "higher boost pressures will blow plastic DVs to pieces" at what pressure are you talking about?
In the Jap world, plastic DVs were standard on cars running up to 1.1 bar and it was generally considered required to upgrade them to a metal DV when tuning above 1.3 bar.
Even tuned 996Ts only tend to peak at 1.3 bar, I think?
Above that and you're looking at serious power - usually upgraded turbos and intercoolers at least?
The 996T wont display above 1.5bar on the readout, though I believe it can be changed these days, I was running 1.7on some billet turbos, though I did turn it down. I've never owned a standard 996 so I couldn't tell you.
If Markski has recommended the plastic ones, then he should use them, they'll be suitable for his power level I'm sure.
Mine is a built 4.0 running Alpha 3076 turbos, so I won't be using plastic.
Well all I can tell you is that it's not uncommon to (and I've personally) run a plastic DV of the 710N type at 1.6 bar without any issues bar some leaking and I believe standard a 996T boosts to 0.7 bar peak.
What boost level "blew the plastic dump valve to pieces" that you saw?
I just bought a couple of 710P which seem to have superceded the 710N revision. I have read they have a slightly reinforced channel that the plunger moves along (don't quote me on that).
Will fit them soon, along with a silicone F Pipe, #16 check valve, Venturi, throttle body O Ring, couple of the small black and white check valves and see how it goes. Just some preventative maintenance followed by a boost leak test.
31K miles 2000 car.
If you're happy with a using stock valves with a bit of leaking at 1.6bar, then good for you. I'm not sure I would be. I don't have any specific data on the boost pressure threshold for a 710n valve, I only have an opinion.
If you're running those pressures on a stock engine you will need head bolts as the heads will lift above 1.5bar. It wasn't a problem for me, my rod snapped before that could happen.
We have installed in the 100s of forged dv with only one fault reported over the last 10 years. The stock plastic ones are exactly that / poor and leak when pushing boost on.
30% of boost leaks on even stock cars come from stock DV's.
