Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I made a little video I thought some of you might find this interesting. How owning a 996 C2 compares to a 997 GT3. The experience is more than just the car - it's the people that own them too. https://youtu.be/LLvyQJPaRP0

POST 2Original post

Great Video 👍 actually watched a couple of yours for 996 issues 👌

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks so much! I often feel a bit daft talking to a camera on my own in the garage so it's good to hear

Enjoyed the video. Sad to hear you are selling the GT3. :nooo:

POST 8Original post

Hi Rob - another cracking video. I think I've watched all of your vids so far. Thanks so much for taking the time to create all this content, and sharing your knowledge & experiences with the community. I especially liked this comparison as I've often wondered myself. And yes, it's sad that you have to give up one of your life dreams that still puts a smile on your face. But family first is totally understandable. Been there too. It will come back, maybe in a different form. Quick question: how do you find the clutch operation differs between them? I've read that this gt3 clutch is significantly heavier to use which makes it much harder work in town / stop-start driving.

POST 9Original post

Well done with the films Rob, they're both entertaining and informative. I still plan to do the RSS engine mount mod eventually. MF

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you and everyone else for the positive comments! Reference the clutch, yes the GT3 has a lot more weight. I certainly wouldn't chose it as a city car! On the run though the action of the clutch is fabulous. If you spend time a lot of time stuck in traffic even the C2 clutch becomes tiresome; I doubt the clutch action on either would be the reason you do or doesn't buy the car though as both are exactly in keeping with the respective style of the sports cars. After all for traffic/city cars we have pdk or tip for that!

POST 12Original post

Thanks Rob. This is always the thing with car reviews, they review in environments where most people will never use them so it's hard to get real world feel for them. So your comparison is super helpful. Out of interest, how do you feel your old 996.2 C4S compares to your 996.1 C2? Why did you choose the C2 and not another C4S?

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The c4s I had was beautiful. My uncle still has it so I'm lucky it's still available for me to drive. I was only the second owner of it, so he is the third. In my opinion the C4S is probably the best looking 996 ever made and an all round terrific car. However for me it just has too much grip vs power. That stole some of the fun away that you can have in a C2 with relatively skinny tyre in comparison.

POST 14Original post

I agree on the looks side. I was toying with C4S vs .1 C2 myself. End of day, I wanted less weight & min tech. Plus the C2 is a comparative bargain. I also love the underdog-ness of the .1. Going against the grain & back-to-basics. So I follow your C2 journey with interest. Do you still have more plans for it?

POST 15Original post

Another interesting video. Interesting that you bring up the community side of the ownership experience. That's a big part of how much enjoyment I get from a car. I loved my little Cooper S due to a great community around the car and conversely I was glad to get out of my M3 as I was concerned I turned into a prat. When I day dream about winning the lottery I do question whether ownership of such a car would be for me. I've been fortunate enough to drive all generations of GT3 excluding the 991.2 so have had a taste of the driving experience. Going by most GT3 threads on Pistonheads I'm just not sure I'd enjoy endlessly discussing values, essential options and stressing about mileage.
