Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am hoping to view the car below and wanted to see what you guys thought on the car or even if it's known here. I am only looking at cars that's had an engine rebuild. Also are there any items to check on this model that's been in storage and not used regularly? I will get a PPI if I do like the car. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202008232832529? Thanks in advance

POST 2Original post

I'd want to know what Engine work was done and why.....and also what they mean by ims.

POST 3Original post

You will want to see the exact spec on the rebuild in terms of what parts have been used, what Piston liners, ims spec etc. But it looks like a belter. Nice colour, manual, decent price. Good luck with it. Rick

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The rebuild was carried out by RGA Prosche London. This is the descrition of the rebuild: Cylinder lining and cylinder head overhaul due to dropped valve seat and cracked liner. Rebuild with new parts ( Engine lining, piston, piston rings, chains, front cranshaft seal, rear crankshaft seal, cylinder head gaskets, big end shells, big end bolts, gaskets, seals, o-ring, chain guide rail, water pump, flywheel bolts ...) for £10,300.

POST 5Original post

So not rebuilt due to bore scoring. Pointless choosing that then if you want a rebuilt one for that reason.

POST 6Original post

Quick look on AT, there are 56 C4S ranging from 20-35k, one has Autofarm rebuild, but after your due diligence, ppi etc, you take a chance on any 15+ year old car! Good luck with your purchase and pics are always welcome :thumb:

POST 7Original post

Looks like a nice car and is therefore worth going to see. If it sounds nice and drives well then that is a bonus to what it looks like. Is there anything niggling at the back of your mind which puts you off? You could phone the company who rebuilt the engine for an opinion.

POST 8Original post

The OP needs to state why he only wants a car with an engine rebuild. If its due to eradicating bore score then this one is a non starter.

POST 9Original post

I ppi'd three C4S back when I was looking in 2013 and all three had bore score. I have always wondered if the over sized turbo radiators contributed to this.

POST 11Original post

why would oversized radiators cause bore scoring. Also if one spent 10k on an engine rebuild, i doubt that the engine builder would have ignored any bore scoring and if new rings were part of the re build then honing of the bores would need to be carried out. Before i m shot down here, i know that traditional bore honing is a no no with these engines and have recently been shown a set of bores honed in the traditional manner prior to fitting new liners. But i am assured that the bores can be honed with the correct (expensive) equipment. I think there is too much supposition going on, go see the car talk to the engine builder, borescope the bores and make a decision.

POST 12Original post

I didnt get the big rads comments - Presumably over cooling? People fit lower temp stats to reduce running temperatures.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I would prefer a car with the engine rebuilt so that one of the potentially major issues has already been addressed. I did call the garage who carried out the rebuild in 2015 and enquired about the car and they said it shouldn't have any bore scoring as the engine has been rebuilt. They didn't go in to any details.

POST 14Original post

If you don't mind a Tiptronic I have details of a guy who had a c4s up for £19500 on eBay, bought from Walkers Autotech, which had had a new Porsche block less than 18k miles ago?

POST 15Original post

I was thinking bigger capacity cooling system, therefore greater time for the coolant to pump round and slower reaction time. Also, the C4S is heavier than the standard 3.6 carrera so there'd be a greater torque load on the engine. :dont know:
