I've only recently bought the car but from a different OPC not my local the radio didn't work, so they removed it to replace a fuse, it now works.

I'm going to replace the second of the door latches with microswitch.

The annoying thing is the fact they have told me the fault beep is to signal the alarm is on when it obviously isn't not sure if there lying or incompetent, all a great reminder to use my local independent, this is a warranty job!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

you paid £500 to have an issue fixed and they say its normal ..
My car (2002 986) gives a double horn signal when I lock the car.
I took it to my OPC for investigation and they diagnosed a fault alarm unit that needed replacement.
After replacing the alarm unit today the double horn signal is still there, the Gold Technician has advised that this is to indicate the alarm has been set, I've never had this in any 986 or 996, has anyone else had this.
Doors, boot, frunk, centre box closed.
I only took it in to get rid of the 'double horn signal'
Many thanks
Ok so lets take this from the top ..
You took your car into the OPC Because it was double beeping the horn when locking ..
they diagnosed a faulty alarm control unit and replaced it .. the car has the same fault .
They have now said this is normal ..
Question .. they said the alarm CU was faulty so replaced it and are now saying its normal .. so why did they replace it if its normal :?:
Sometimes i could weep for the quality of OPC techs .. a Gold tech no less .. sigh ..
For info .. on locking a 986 they don't trigger a horn activation .
A single beep of the horn is to inform you that the car can see something open such as the glove box , center console lid or perhaps a bonnet .
A double beep is to inform you the car can actually see a fault on the alarm system .. so things like door barrel key micro switch activated .. a fault with the drivers door lock ..
All that is needed .. put a tester on it .. look at alarm activation and events ..
After that look at the actual values for ALL the switches when the car is locked and unlocked ..
This sort of fault is literally 10 mins to diagnose if you Actually INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE ..
First thing i would be doing .. complain .. you paid £500 to have an issue fixed and they say its normal .. hell if it was then why did they "fix " it !!!
Please feel free to print this out and take it into said OPC .
Mine does that. I'm going to replace the second of the door latches with microswitch. It's £20 for the exact same VW part and an hour to fit.
Your OPC is feeding you a load of bull there. They do not double beep to show they're armed. That's a fault warning and most likely not with the alarm itself, but a door, bonnet, boot, centre console microswitch thinking it's still open.
Thanks for the reply's.
I've only recently bought the car but from a different OPC not my local the radio didn't work, so they removed it to replace a fuse, it now works.
From another post I've now found out that there is a switch/earth on the radio and that can be a problem if the radio is removed, so good chance it's that.
The annoying thing is the fact they have told me the fault beep is to signal the alarm is on when it obviously isn't not sure if there lying or incompetent, all a great reminder to use my local independent, this is a warranty job!
Thanks again
I'll update if they ever take it back
Non standard Radio .. it will give a single beep unless the wire has been disconnected to the left side of the radio .. again it can be seen with actual values on a tester .. radio contact closed as opposed to open which it should be .
It will Never give a double beep , that only happens when the car can see a fault with the system .
A single beep is to inform you something is open .. glove box , radio contact etc .
Something open is not a fault .
I've just replaced the passenger door latch mechanism/actuator and the central locking works fine on my 98 996.1 now. No double horn beep on lock/unlock.
£20 and 45 minutes work.

The tip of the microswitch was worn down, as was the cam shaped wheel in the actuator which pushes the switch to tell it the door is locked.
I did the drivers door one and things improved, but this one was just as bad. I suppose they both unlock/lock the same times, so both will wear out at once.
