Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Re: Wet patch under passenger floor mat Hi Just removed the passenger side floor mat in my 2001 Gen 1 Carrera 4 to clean off some dirt and have found a wet patch on the carpet beneath. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what the cause is.. Pic attached Thanks Johnny

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No only the patch shown in the pic.. all other areas are dry..The pic has rotated when I posted it for some reason but it's about where most people's left foot would be when sat in the passenger seat. I've rubbed it with a micro fibre cloth and it's not that wet but as the pic shows it has discoloured the carpet so it's been happening for a while

Quite a few threads knocking about with this issue, here's one from a few years ago that's recently been resurrected. There maybe something in there that helps you. Other threads are available. http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=91316&start=20

if you can feel water on the surface of the carpet then i'm afraid you have serious water leak issue .. There is at least 2 inches of foam below that point .. for water to be at the top then you get the idea just how much is in your car .. Possible leaks .. Door membrane Front drain grommets blocked at the side of the battery a/c pipe disconnected or blocked Center foam cover over the heater matrix which is behind the battery is damaged . In essence .. you need to remove the carpet to dry and you need to pour water over the car in that area to find the leak. carpet lifted and folded over the center console with a dehumidifier in the car will dry it out . If the area under the passenger's seat gets wet then the car will no longer start , alarm control unit is fitted there .. thats the big issue here . I would lean towards the door membrane is allowing water in .

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks deMort I will follow your advice and hopefully find the problem.. it's been there a while as when I first saw it (12 months ago) I thought it was a spill from a previous owner that had stained the carpet.. the wet feels isolated only to the area that is dark in colour.. what was puzzling me was the fact the over Mat had zero moist on it..

POST 7Original post

I dug out some pictures of carpets i've removed over the years .. these are all Targa,s as i was doing a roof refurb and the carpets were wet ... i take images to give to the customer on the larger jobs .. gives him an idea of why he has spent so much money as pictures talk far louder than words ever can . The carpet hanging .. it's a rear section and not applicable to your car but its to try and show you the amount of foam on the under side ... i don't tend to take pictures of carpets hanging up so have nothing else ! As per the other pictures you can see the foam is shaped so thicker at some points . Alarm control unit and park assist cu if fitted are under the plastic box n/s/f . If you remove the plastic panel alongside the n/s/f seat , a t20 screw under the rubber .. it then pulls up and off trim clips .. you can then just about get your hand under there .. you will soon see if its soaking wet or not .. I may be wrong .. it might be something else .. But i always err on the side of caution and for me .. for now .. you have a water ingress until proven otherwise . EDIT I can say that a pink stain can be caused by a Vape liquid spilling on a carpet .. can't comment further on that though .. legal issues .

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

deMort thanks for your imput I will do as you say and check for moisture by removing that plastic cover and getting my hand under the carpet.. I'll check all the drain holes and the AC pipe in the footwell also and report my finding tomorrow Regards Johnny

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've had the panel that holds the umbrella removed today as per deMort's advice to gain access to underside of the carpet and fortunately there does not appear to be any moisture/water at all.. The car has been having some work done to it and has spent the last 4 weeks on a ramp in a garage.. 3 of the 4 bulkhead drain holes were blocked so possibly that could have been the cause.. the sunroof drains and AC pipe in the passenger foot well will be checked next Monday when it goes back to the garage.. but it's a big relief that there was no water under the carpet as the thought of getting it removed was a grim prospect.

POST 10Original post

If you have got your hand under the front part of the carpet and its dry then you have no water leak issues .. Trust me when i say if you had a water leak the carpet would be saturated on the under side . Sooo ... we are left with a damp spot thats purple .. something spilt perhaps .. Vape fluid from e-cigs does leave a purple stain and a spill seems possible .. its wet in a single area only and on top of the carpet ... water from the underside wont come up in just a few inches square with that amount of foam down there . It won't be the a/c pipe .. you will have a damp carpet over the entire area .

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I hope that is the case.. I have the phone numbers for the 2 previous owners.. I'll message them and ask the question.. hopefully that will shed some light on the cause of the stain.. deMort thank you so much for your help
