This is not a probability of success.

1

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suspected cause

Probably the difference in gear ratios is larger so it delays a second longer, something like that.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Has anyone else with Tiptronic experienced this? When shifting from 2nd to 3rd, the transmission seems to delay and the RPM drops a couple of hundred before a full transition to 3rd. It does not happen from 1st to 2nd or in any other gear, and happens the same way in manual or auto mode. It also does the same thing at any throttle setting. I took my dealership salesman out and let him drive it, and he said his Cayman S manual does the same thing, and that he thinks it is the variocam doing its thing. I ruled that out because it happens well above and below the variocam threshold and only in the transition from 2 to 3. Looking for help before I go to Dealership Hell and try to convice them something is wrong...

POST 2Original post

Get a second opinion . . . Well, IMO your salesman is talking out of his @$$ . I mean, the Variocam doesn't have anything to do with the transmission! I have not noticed the phenomenon you describe, and the fact that it only happens between 2nd and 3rd indicates to me that it might be a problem with the Tiptronic controller. Do you have Sport Chrono, and if so does it happen in Sport mode also? I would have someone in the Service Dept, preferably a Porsche tech, drive it to see what is going on. In my experience, where car salesmen are concerned, a little knowledge (sometimes very little) is a dangerous thing. Keep us updated.

POST 3Original post

Do not have sport chrono. I will take it to the dealership and have a tech drive with me. Thanks for the info-

POST 4Original post

I'm going to go with... thats just how tip works? Probably the difference in gear ratios is larger so it delays a second longer, something like that.

POST 5Original post

No delay in mine. I would definately have it checked out. Good luck!

POST 6Original post

No prolonged delay you descibe on mine... How long is the delay?

POST 7Original post

same as most people here, no 'noticable' delays! ________________________ "Sir! We're surrounded!" - "Excellent! We can shoot in any direction!" A good car will get you from point A to point B. A great car... will just get you into trouble!

POST 8Original post

I have driven plenty of TIP cars and know what the Tip should be like, but this is my first experience with a Cayman . Wife even said "something does not feel right". Its about a half to three-quarter second delay MORE than what happens in other gears. I am convinced its messed up since the others notice nothing. Will report back when I get a reading at the dealership.
