Handling-wise, the Boxster feels soft (same 19s and PS2s as my CS) and actually absorbs the very badly rutted roads around my area much better than the CS, but turn-in isn't as sharp, and it felt slightly more disconnected than the CS.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Well, how typical. My car came to the end of its 2 year (UK) warranty during last December. Having had pretty good luck with the car, and wanting to do some mods to it, I decided not to take out the extended Porsche warranty at circa £900 So of course in January I noticed that only one of the radiator fans was coming on up front. The Near Side (right hand side looking at it from the front) fan is not running at all during the cooling cycle and the Off Side one sounds extra noisy. In fact, it was the additional noise of the O/S fan that alerted me. In reality the N/S fan could have gone out months ago and I just only picked it up recently. The temp is not going above normal, though I havent tracked it since, but does seem to be coming on a lot more frequestly than I ever remember. Bolton OPC picked the car up this morning and have confirmed that the N/S fan is not functioning and that it is not just a loose wire. I have requested that they put in a good will gesture request with Porsche seeing as I have had the car from new, it has been serviced on schedule, and it had 2 previous coolant issues (both leaks) earlier in it's life. They have done that and I should have an answer by 11am tomorrow. In the mean time I have a £45k brand new Boxster S as a loan car, so I'm off to see what on earth they managed to put on it to get it up to that price. I'll keep you posted on how the good will warranty request goes. Jack

POST 3Original post

At least they are doing the good will gesture, interesting to see what they come back with. The way I look at it is......a part is a part is a part. In past Porsches (and other cars) I have had, radiator fan motors lasted anywhere from 20k miles (968) to my first 928 S4 where to my knowledge both of them (VERY hard working fans BTW) lasted more than 120K miles. I believe Porsche specs some of the better parts out there, but every once in a while a bad one comes through. Hate when your the one it falls on though.

POST 4Original post

Well, yesterday they informed me that Porsche had refused the good-will gesture in this case. Typical. Initial quote for replacement was £149+vat for the fan plus 1 hours labour at £110. Total just over £300. I went ahead and agreed to the work. They called back within a couple of hours to say that the job was complete and the car was on its way back to me, and that they had extended a discount to me on the previous quote, and that the total was now £235 So not quite the result I was after, but it could have been worse, and in the mean time got a brand new 3.4 Boxster S to drive around in. RE: Boxster. Straight line there is now nothing between the CS and the BS. The engine felt a little keener to pull on the BS, is the final gearing a little different? The noise isn't as nice either. The CS definately has the nicer, more aggresive soundtrack. Handling-wise, the Boxster feels soft (same 19s and PS2s as my CS) and actually absorbs the very badly rutted roads around my area much better than the CS, but turn-in isn't as sharp, and it felt slightly more disconnected than the CS. But if I wasn't "in to" my cars in such a way, then there isn't really that much to split the cars at the moment. As a "pootle around town". "look at me" car the BS is actually probably the better option as the compliancy in the ride makes it actually a bit more comfortable to use on a day-to-day basis. Very glad to have the CS back though. Just £670 of "Extended Warranty Credit" left in the bank to last me 'til December........................

POST 5Original post

So glad I'n not the only person who thinks in that way, if I decide not to buy something (even if its because I cant afford it) I also see it a virtual credit to my bank account

POST 6Original post

Jack you'll have to "put it to bed" like mine is at the moment only joking, but it's an arse when it's just come out of warranty !! Did you get the broken parts back ??? as I've sometimes found if you insist that you want the damaged/broken part's back.....all of a sudden the original part starts to work again....bit like magic !!!! remember for the future

POST 7Original post

No didn't get them back, or ask for them!! Will remember that for future, cheers Allan. Car is running pretty damned fine right now though. Like they did something else to it other than change a fan. Maybe they cleared the ECU or soemthing? Don't know but it feels good. And it's either the new diff or the geo settings that Chris put in, but it doesn't half like to steer-from-the-rear now. Very entertaining...........
