I think the 08's have the key properly adjusted from the factory as I haven't had any problems with mine whatsoever.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust from the factory as i haven't had any problems' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'number 1 thing about this car' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust from the factory as i haven't had any problems' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

So for now I've changed my key toting habits such that I put the keys down when I enter the house.

Porsche came out with a Tech-bulletin for older cars and changed the programming of newer cars.

Suspected cause
Probably the number 1 thing about this car that bugs me day in and day out.

Suggestion
I'd sure hope they change the key design some time soon for the sake of future owners.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I think the trunk opening problem is solved in the 08.
Seems like every day I put my keys in my pocket and my trunk pops open. Does this drive anyone else crazy? I've thought about sanding down the ridges on each button. Any thoughts?
Well yeah it drives me crazy. There have been other threads on it a ways back, some seemed to hint at some electronic solution, but I didn't see a follow up to it. I don't think that solution would work very well for me anyway.
I don't think sanding the ridges down would help much for me either.
I was thinking what would be good is to fabricate a sort of flip top metal lid that attached to the section that hold the key on your key ring. When you close it it prevents you from pressing any of the keys. Not something I can make myself anyway.
I've been looking for a small sleek smooth case I can put it in but no luck. When you start to try to find things to put it in, you realize just how ridiculously big this key is.
So for now I've changed my key toting habits such that I put the keys down when I enter the house. This really drives me nuts as I hate not having my keys on me for fear of forgetting them.
Even with all this I have managed to accidentally open my car more times than I have actually driven it. The key is completely ridiculous. I'd sure hope they change the key design some time soon for the sake of future owners.
Yep, I've also experienced the popping trunks.
Hey, I just thought of a new nickname for my car...I'm going to call him Orville. After Orville Redenbacher. Pop, pop, pop, pop....
Yes, it would be great if Porsche made a cover or something to curb this problem.
As shown below, there have been tons of posts on this issue. There are basically two solutions: have dealer program key to require extended depression, or desensitize inside of key.
I had my dealer program the extended holding period when I got my car 5 months ago; I carry both my regular key on a small leather key case, and my spare key loose in my pocket - have not had a problem yet.
See your dealer/service dept.
Ditto - I just had my dealer reprogram the key activation - it was set on the shortest delay. Depending on which generation PIWIS Tester your dealer has, they can program the key delay from 400 mS (what most of them seem to come from factory with) up to 1100 mS. I had mine increased to the next level (600 mS) and it is less sensitive than before.

I think the 08's have the key properly adjusted from the factory as I haven't had any problems with mine whatsoever. Just like AsterixTG I have to hold my buttons down for at least 1 second to open trunks.
I started a thread like this in July. When I asked the service manager about the problem he gave me a blank look. (That's the same kind of look I get whenever I bring up a problem.) I have learned to talk my key out of my pocket and put it on the table as soon as I get home. If I carry the key in my pocket the trunk is going to open or the doors are going to lock.
Have him pull the TSB 9662 and give it to his service technician, who probably does know more about it than he does (my service advisor hadn't heard of it either).
BTW, according to the same TSB, they can restore the function that opens the windows with the fob, should you desire.

Wilhelmy-IT Inc. smartTOP - remoteTOP - remoteKEY Porsche Carrera Boxster Mercedes Benz SLK SL CLK Comfort One-Touch Soft-Top roof control units and Comfort remote controllers
that makes the RemoteKey product for the Cayman that solves this issue? That's my recommendation, haven't had this problem since.
My dealer adjusted mine and it was slighty better. As silly as this may sound- removing the other keys and repositioning the leather Porsche logo eliminated most of my problems. Now if I could just fix the ^$&$^$^$^& trunk clunk- I would have a perfect car.
This seems like a pretty expensive over-engineered solution to a simple problem. No slight against what they are doing and it's a great option, in fact it has all sorts of other useful features, but honestly I would never use them. I just want to prevent the buttons from being pressed, which you would think could be solved with an inexpensive metal cover or such that would 100% guarantee the problem to go away.I have serious doubts the Wilhelmy solution would solve all my problems either. My key doesn't actually seem that sensitive, it may have already been reprogrammed and worn in a bit. It's just still way too easy for the buttons to be pressed for extended periods of time when in my pocket given they are not at all recessed and they are huge. Even with the Wilhelmy solution I am pretty sure the problem will stlll occur for me, just less often. Even my other car's key fobs get accidentally pressed sometimes, and they are recessed and need to be pressed for seconds.
Tischer
BMW
(of Tischer Porsche-

BMW
) has the latest version of that key case on sale (or they did last month when I bought it for my
BMW
). Note, the price is good only on-line but you can put "will call" in for the delivery address.
BMW
key had the same problem.
Does anyone know what Porsche did to rectify this problem? I have put my key in the
BMW
leather key fob mentioned earlier in this post as well as in the "
BMW
solution" thread. This has greatly improved the situation but not 100%. Even now when bending down with the key in my pocket and in the key fob, the buttons on the key are activated and pops the trunk or hood, or unlocks the door. Maddening.
Porsche came out with a Tech-bulletin for older cars and changed the programming of newer cars. The programming increased the time that you had to operate the trunk button before the trunk opened and also disabled the comfort window opening via the remote.
