Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was saying to someone today that I'm starting to see the 996 (all models) in a different light. Granted it's hard to beat the 993 but the 996 is anything but ugly, even with the narrow hips - they had come to the same conclusion. So with good 993's in short supply, will there be a renewed interest in the 996 in the years to come :?:

POST 2Original post

maybe........... now with all those 997's on the road (?)

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

:hand: but surely with all those 997 engine failures, the 997 is sure to become rarer than a 993 :floor:

POST 5Original post

Ah so I'm going to garage mine for 20 years Pete

POST 6Original post

A design who's time has come? Clean, tight, unfussy lines, prefer the dark colours. or at least immanent.....

POST 7Original post

The 996 was never a bad-looking car, it just had a tough act to follow I also prefer it in dark colours, and the facelifted headlamps did improve things significantly

POST 8Original post

I can only agree...seeing as the one in the first post is exactly how mine looks! I think that with the 996, it is a very spec-dependant car on how it looks, more so than some of the other 911's. Taran :thumb:

POST 9Original post

I cannot think of any other car I would want insstead of But" as well as" is a different matter. When the 996 engine becomes more of an affordable replacement then the 996 should go on and down in history as a desirable affordable classic Unless the race track claims them all

POST 10Original post

my 996 is perfect for me, can't think of anything else this side of £100k that I would want to change it for

POST 11Original post

I agree - it is a beautiful clean shape (although I keep pondering an aero kit!) Having said that I gave mine a good clean yesterday and think it looks fantastic in lapis blue and in original condition with no add ons (mine is just like the previous picture).

POST 12Original post

I'm bound to say this but I agree! I think that it's a great looking car (particularly the face lifted ones ) and, what with all these horror stories around at the moment about 997s, I think that their popularity has seen an increase now! I was very, very close to changing mine for a C2 997 not so long ago and someone told me that my car was worth nothing as it wasn't a C4S and didn't have a turbo body. Glad I didn't bother listening to him (a dealer) as I think that the narrow hip'd ones are looking great in their own way - much like the last of the 993s. The 996 C4S is a damn fine looking car BUT it's heavier, less economical, lacks 'feel' in the steering compared to a 'raw' C2, has less boot space and is more expensive to run. I guess that the only advantage would be to get one of the younger ones that came with the newer 2 year service schedule, though?! Andy: step away from the aero-kit!! :hand:

POST 13Original post

996 mellowing I have always thought that the 996 was more special than the 997, purely because it is IMHO the very last of the cars that you could call handbuilt, ie none of the latest cadcam etc and mass produced feel to it. I bought my 996c4s cab over and above the 997 because mainly it had a special look and feel, also of course it was considerably cheaper and so should prove a good move. It still looks every bit as special as some of the 993s which of course it would especially from the rear. The inside is the main point in fact as it does not feel bm ish or as though its had a new dash slapped in because the factory thought they might sell a few more cars by a facelift. Glad to see othrs feeling the same.Regards Mike
