Suggestion

A double-beep means that you have an alarm fault - probably a door lock microswitch - but you should get a diagnostic check done to confirm it.

Suspected cause

It is most likely the microswitch in the door lock assembly which tells the system that the door is locked.

Suggestion · Original poster

I'm using the quick double press on the remote to ensure it is locked as turning the key 3 times and back to straight was fairly random if it locked it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, got a bit of a problem with my 2000 C4. On going to lock the car today, it immediately unlocked itself and double beeped at me. I have checked everything is shut, boot lid, bonnet, sunroof, doors & centre glovebox but it keeps doing it, any ideas, dont really want to leave it unlocked overnight!! :?

POST 2Original post

First things first try a system re-boot. Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, reconnect and see if it is cured. Don't forget to reset the throttle body at the same time, simply when the battery is reconnected turn on the ignition so all the lights appear in the cluster but do not press any pedals or start the engine, just leave ignition on for minimum 60 seconds. During this time you will hear buzzing at the rear and the sound of a flap opening and closing, that will be the TB setting itself. Once down then ignition fully off and start car as normal.

POST 3Original post

A double-beep means that you have an alarm fault - probably a door lock microswitch - but you should get a diagnostic check done to confirm it. To lock the car, use the emergency locking procedure. Put the key in the door, and turn it to the lock position and back to the centre 3 times in succession.

POST 4Original post

After switching the ignition off, it is essential that you don't switch it on again for at least 10 seconds. This only works on eGas cars (which the C4 has).

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks guys, i'll go and try it now, back in 20 mins!!

POST 6Original post

I bet it's the microswitch in the centre console.....the little barsteward!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

disconnected the battery and the alarm went off!

POST 8Original post

Sounds like a micro switch fault and the security system thinks the car is locked when open therefore siren going off when battery disconnected to to voltage drop. I would do as Richard says, get it on the PIWIS to seek where the issue is otherwise you'll end up stripping the car to find out what is wrong.

POST 9Original post

Swicth on the ignition (but don't start the engine) before you disconnect the earth strap on the battery, and it will stop the alarm siren going off.

POST 10Original post

That would give a single-beep, and wouldn't make the doors immediately unlock. It is most likely the microswitch in the door lock assembly which tells the system that the door is locked. The door solenoid will be actuating the lock, but the switch is telling the system that it isn't locked. Therefore it gives a double-beep to say that there is a fault, and the door unlocks.

POST 11Original post

Hi As said before get it on a porsche diagnostic and do a drive links test then look what the microswitches in the locks are doing one will not be working if this is the case get the door lock replaced. If you press the lock button 2 times in quick succession it will overide it and lock. Mike

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've ordered a obd2 reader to see if that gives me the code, should be with me tomorrow. The centre console glovebox hinge has been broken for ages and if I didn't make sure it was properly shut I would get the single beep warning when locking the car. I wonder if it's finally got pissed off with reminding me and is teaching me a lesson I'm using the quick double press on the remote to ensure it is locked as turning the key 3 times and back to straight was fairly random if it locked it. It's just turned 50K so I hope this isn't the start of problems to come!! Creaky suspension/drop links/control arm etc is driving me nuts already but I love this car!

POST 13Original post

Unless it is a Durametric, or Porsche PST2 or PIWIS tester, you won't be able to read the fault codes from the alarm system. Standard OBD2 code readers/scanners will only read engine ECU fault codes. If you are anywhere near me, I'd be happy to check it out for you.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No it didn't read the alarm codes, just came up clear of faults. I'm down in Haywards Heath, so just over an hour away from Maidenhead, thanks for your generous offer, I appreciate it and may well take you up on it, any excuse for a nice run! anyone a bit closer to save on the mileage though? Have the day off tomorrow so might have a poke around all the locks.
