Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Since new my Cayman has had an annoying buzzing noise along with several other annoying rattles. The buzzing was between 3500 and 3800 rpm. Which I originally thought was coming from the rear of the passenger compartment. After some investigating I found the sound coming from the map and interior light assembly. I was reluctant to remove the light assembly because it didn't appear to just to pop out. After some experimenting I found it did indeed just pop out with the use of a plastic pry bar. I removed it and put some silicone sealant on any parts that may make noise including the edge of the housing where it meets the clear lens. Success! buzzing sound is no longer an issue. In addition, to my surprise it seemed to be responsible for several other rattling sounds I had also. The interior of the car is much more pleasant after this 30 minute fix. The difference is night and day. It is really hard for me to believe that the noise this small item emitted was being telegraphed throughout my cockpit making it sound like I had numerous rattles coming from various areas. If you have been chasing rattles in your car. I highly suggest that you try this fix. The out come will be amazing if your car has the same issue. You can check to see if this is a problem in your car by removing the light and driving without it.. A few tips. Pry in downward motion from the front of the housing near the rearview mirror. Use a straight silicone sealant. Using any other type may stick to well making bulb replacement a time consuming job. Do not use the head liner for leverage. You may damage it. Place something behind the pry bar. The tools I used are called interior clip removal tools. If you would like purchase a set. I believe I bought mine from Harbor Freight. Be sure the sealant is dry before installing the light.
