Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all I've recently acquired a rather nice 40th Anniversary 996 and am loving it, although sitting in traffic for 2 hours yesterday was a rather stern test of my affections. I have a few questions which hopefully you guys can help me with. I would have had one more when the car failed to unlock yesterday with the remote, until that is I read the FAQ about the car going to "sleep" if not used for 4 days 1) What warranty options do us guys down south have? I live in London though I don't mind traveling a bit for inspection/servicing. Costs would be useful if you know them. 2) I've got a space saver spare in the boot but where's the jack and wrench? Apologies if they're behind the wheel - I haven't taken it out yet. 3) I've got litronics and noticed yesterday whilst standing at the side of the road waiting to give my details as witness to an accident, that there's a silver disc in the middle of each headlight assembly. Is this just a blanking plate where the headlight washer would be if it had been specced or some kind of aesthetic "feature"? 4) Has anyone had a PSE fitted recently and fancy recommending me where to go for one? Cheers all

POST 2Original post

OPC Service Centre Byfleet (Brooklands) http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=39901 very recommended for all you official requirements and mention '911uk' As for the headlamps, that silver disc are the headlamp washers. Have a word with Byfleet about your PSE

> I've got a space saver spare in the boot but where's the jack and wrench? Apologies if they're behind the wheel - I haven't taken it out yet. Yes, behind the wheel - but recommend you check to see if they're there - you don't want to find out when you've got a flat tyre.

POST 4Original post

As Sundeep says - the disc has the washer mechanism below. With the headlights on, when you operate the windscreen washers, the disc rises to reveal the washer jet which blasts each of the lights. Be sure to try it out to make sure it's working ok. Peter

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll go and have a closer inspection of the headlamp washers and spare wheel now.

POST 6Original post

Headlight washers You'll need to push the wiper stalk away from you (towards the dashboard) whilst the lights are on for the washers to work....

POST 7Original post

Re: Headlight washers And don't try this at ~100mph or so as one of our members on here will testify those silver discs blow off! ~ Maxie

POST 8Original post

POST 9Original post

If your jack is missing then they are frequently sold on ebay for about £25, they are the same as the boxster unit Welcome to the forum Ray :thumb:

POST 10Original post

Sundeep, well I never - I had no idea that I had headlight washers until I read your post tonight. Just been to check them and sure enough they work! cheers Ray

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers for the responses guys. Been out to check and found a full toolkit behind the spare wheel. Very cool, complete with plastic gloves so you don't get dirt under your fingernails. I finally see why Porsche charged 70 grand for these cars in the first place Thanks for the tip on the PSE thread Big Bob. Any thoughts on the warranty question? Obviously there's OPC at about 1400 quid if I remember correctly, but any other providers in these parts?

POST 12Original post

Don't want to burst your bubble on the VFM of tyre changing gloves in a £70k motor's tool kit, but they do give these things away for free at petrol stations. You may need to venture to the Diesel pump for them though. Seriously though, it is sort of cool to roll out the almost surgical tool roll and find some curious tools you won't find on a bogo car. Like the gloves, tyre bag (for punctured tyre and alloy wheel you will now be giving a lift to on the front seats or rear parcel shelf after a puncture), the wheel locator assist, the headlamp removal tool, a pencil tyre pressure gauge and some odd scouring pad thing I have no idea what is for. Plus the usual screwdriver and spanners etc. The odd luminous felt duffel bag for the jack etc is quaint too. Hasn't a patch on old Beemer toolkits that dropped down from the boot lid though. They almost looked like one of those 99-piece jobbies from Argos or B&Q. You'd think with those kits you were meant to be able to do all your own maintenance whilst on the Paris-Dakar!

POST 13Original post

It took me a mere 16 months to discover that the silver discs on my headlights werent just blanking plates but actually worked

POST 14Original post

You're not the only one....took me about 12 months of trying to find where the switch was because I knew I had them but just didn't know how to operate them! ~ Maxie

Glad I'm not the only one who didn't read the manual on day one!
