This is not a probability of success.

You are only using the jack to support weight of engine not the car, as you undo the mounts.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok...going to do this job...finally. I have read and re-read the Pelican Parts DIY article and have a (few) question(s): #1: PP shows placing the jack directly in the middle of the oil pan. I swear I saw a post on here where someone(Hurdi?) placed their jack, inadvertently, on the pan and cracked the pan. I have also read how someone suggests jacking engine from the "triangular" piece on the rear part of the engine block. Which is right? #2: Any other "experience" suggestions? Thanks

POST 2Original post

To support just the partial weight of the engine/transmission, you can jack under the engine case here (photo taken from Orient Express on Renntech.org). I use a hockey puck so the jack won't catch the edge of the oil pan. Do not use this point to jack up the rear of the car though. The rest of swapping out the mounts is pretty straight forward. I like to put a little bit of anti-seize on the thread of the long mount bolts.

POST 3Original post

+1 - it's actually quite easy overall. When you're done you'll wonder what all the fuss was about

POST 4Original post

+996.1 on that. its pretty simple. You are only using the jack to support weight of engine not the car, as you undo the mounts. Pretty simple. I had to go buy a long reach socket to undo the main nuts, other than that plain sailing.

POST 5Original post

I did it recently myself. You'll want a 6" extension and, depending on how long it's been since they were replaced, liquid wrench and a long breaker bar. Jack up at the point Ahsai's showing until you've raised the body 2" or so relative to the rear tires.

POST 6Original post

It's an easy DIY so long as rust hasn't played havoc with the 18mm bolts. One side was easy, the other was a bit of work because of corrosion of the bolt in my case.

POST 7Original post

Be careful putting the airbag in so you don't break your oil Filler tube. Ask me how I know.
