A Targa I test drove a couple of years ago had a strange indicator action, and it turned out the owner had 'repaired' it himself after a bit of plastic broke off !

Suggestion

I can't tell you how much it cost or the labour to fit it as it was covered by the OPC Warranty, but it involved replacing the unit and indicator stalk (presumably the whole unit) but not the wiper stalk.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i have a 53 plate 996 at the weekend the incicator stalks stopped working properly........turn left it doesnt self cancel turn right the stalk wont stay up unledd i hold in position ???? any ideas alan

POST 3Original post

I had the same problem last year, at the point it should self cancel it made a "broken plastic" sound. I can't tell you how much it cost or the labour to fit it as it was covered by the OPC Warranty, but it involved replacing the unit and indicator stalk (presumably the whole unit) but not the wiper stalk.

POST 4Original post

If you have to replace it, sounds like an hours work tops plus the waiting time for disarming the air bag.

POST 5Original post

poor design and quality when i got my 996 targa the indicator stalk was the one thing which seemed cheap and flimsy no problems for me though after 5 years

POST 6Original post

I've also got the same problem on mine....haven't bothered fixing it. Have been quoted approx 270 GBP incl. parts and labour (in Dubai mind you) [/quote]

POST 7Original post

I have the same problem. Has anybody had a tinker to see if an effective repair can be done ? or is it just a no no and replace the unit complete?

POST 8Original post

Had a problem with my horn recently and the mechanic simply took the airbag off. I have a spare indicator unit if anyone is interested, will check out the part no TB

POST 9Original post

Seems a common problem. A Targa I test drove a couple of years ago had a strange indicator action, and it turned out the owner had 'repaired' it himself after a bit of plastic broke off ! That said, the indicator stalk on our car still has a pretty rubbish (sticky) action compared to our other cars, and its in perfect order. So I guess "they all do that Sir".

POST 10Original post

I agree Dave. :thumb: My 996's indicator stalk is fair to rubbish compared to other cars. It just lacks a degree of "positivity" in operation, that's all. :dont know:

POST 11Original post

My 02 Targa suffered the same problem. I bought one off Ebay which was from a Boxter, £40. Fitting took 30 mins.

POST 12Original post

Spare stalk Part no 996 613 215 10, you will have to use your existing wiper cap on the right arm. PM me if interested. TB
