It was a Porsche battery and the 2 year warranty ended in January 09.Having looked at various battery related posts I was going to replace with a Bosch silver but I found their internet site confusing regarding what was suitable for my car and the output did not seam very good.

They might want to see that Halfords battery replaced with a Porsche Moll one agan for renewal purposes
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Over the last couple of months I have been topping up my battery with a C-tec charger.I used the car last weekend to see the BTCC at Thruxton and again for work on monday and tuesday.
Yesterday I went to start the car and nothing,so attatched the charger and kept it on for 12-14 hours and now just some clicking so I have come to the conclusion the battery is knackered.
It was a Porsche battery and the 2 year warranty ended in January 09.Having looked at various battery related posts I was going to replace with a Bosch silver but I found their internet site confusing regarding what was suitable for my car and the output did not seam very good.
In the end I bought one from Halfords that is suitable for my car at £99.99 with a 4 year guarantee.(Porsche £250 and 2 year guarantee).Fitted it myself in 5 minuites and everything seams fine.
The good thing about the 4 year guarantee is any issues and I take it back and they give me a new one.
Have I done the right thing or should I have got another battery.
I do hope your Porsche car warranty isn't up soon? They might want to see that Halfords battery replaced with a Porsche Moll one agan for renewal purposes
assuming the battery has the required cranking amps and sufficient AH ampere hours capacity then yes you've done the right thing!
Remember that Porsche dont make batteries, tyres, engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, light bulbs..................................................................

I think the Halfords battery is on par with the Porsche one if not a better battery. The guy in Halfords said that they used to sell Bosch silver batteries but stopped selling them as it was basically the same as theirs but a lot more expensive.
Hi Ian. How can you lose? Always a good idea to keep it on a trickle charger if you don't use it that often but even if it does die on you in a year or two - you just get a new one! Everyone's happy (well, maybe Halfords won't be...?)
Just make sure that you keep that receipt safe and keep buying stuff from Halfords so that they don't go bust!
Adrian.
The receipt is safely tucked away with my OPC service history. One thing I did notice on the certificate for the 4 year warranty.I quote"If your battery developes a fault during the warranty period, return it with this certificate to any Halfords store. The warranty on any replacement battery will expire on your original battery date.Your statutory rights remain unaffected".
So this means if my battery is faulty in 3 years and 11 months time, when they hand over the new replacement battery and say there you are you have one months warranty and the next customer in the queue buys a battery and they say there you are 4 years warranty.Legally I believe they are on a sticky wicket.
Hopefully by then I should have a 997 or 998.
Not really.
They give you a new battery and the other person buys theirs. Different contract.
Your original contract included a manufacturer or retailer defined warranty of their choosing (be it 1,2,3, 4 years ... lifetime). So the replacement battery is to make good on that contract.
After the contracted period they have no liability. So as long as any number of replacement batteries required eventually reach the original warranty period they have fulfilled their original contractual obligations.
Check any "replacement" warranty and you will see this is standard practice. Otherwise companies would have replacement liability forever.
By the way, picking up on Damian's point, and he's correct - if you have a thousand warranty customers a year requiring new batteries then thats a £100,000 extra margin for Porsche GB and OPC! :judge:
If you add in brakes and other consumables this just shows what a big scam the OPC warranty is. Call me cynical, some on this forum do, but I once heard about some famous King having a great new suit ..................
