Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hey guys i am a 1st time owner of a Porsche 996TT 1998 Miles 147,000. All seems well after having it for the 1st month no issues have arisen yet though i would like advice on what checks i can have done to make sure i have a bought a sound car with a good engine i.e a service or compression checks. Can anyone reccomend a good independant garage in the North West area to do these checks and what standard am i looking for all for peace of mind i guess. Before i start to spend any money on new tyres, alloys and so on. Remember i am a complete novice Porsche it was a rush of blood that got me here and a very cheap car from a family member.

Welcome to the forum Bobby Mc. The Turbo is a nice car but did you not think to check it before you bought it? Certainly the highest number of miles I've heard of in a TT. Make sure the service book is stamped up to date, proof of receipts would be good, PPI would also be good (in your case a post-purchase inspection!) to see what else the car might need doing. Any pics? What spec have you got? You must show exterior and interior to be a fully accepted member of this site. ~ Maxie

POST 3Original post

Welcome to the forum - Just clarify the year of your car to be 1998 as I understood the 996TT model being introduced around year 2000 :dont know:

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I feel i might of confused you a little here the car is a 996 Trip s, Lapis Blue, Savannah cloured interior, Sun roof and have head light washers, of which i am niot sure of common. I have no pictures to show as i had 3 days then i had to leave to come offshore as i work in the offshore oil industry rotating 4 on 4 off. The i gues is yet anothe issue i have to contend with is leaving it idle for 4 weeks at a time.

If you are in the North West you won't go far wrong with having a chat and a visit to Mike at Sports and Classic in Knutsford. First class service and advice at a reasonable cost. Highly recommended by many. www.sportsandclassic.com I have no affiliation with Mike at Sports and Classic except to say I've been there a few times and he's been faultlessly and tirelessly helpful.

Sounds like you have a 996 tiptronic, what is on the registration doc or what badge is on the back? TB
