I found that quite alot of 911's had frequently changed owners early on in their lives.

Personally, I think you have to look beyond that and check history, servicing etc and buy the best you can to suit budget and preferences.

These cars can change hands quickly - for no other reason than the owner gets bored of them!!

In my opinion some owners of 911's have more money than others and they just change them like (I) change my pants!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Natuarally when it is time to sell the buyer/dealer will tell me it makes no difference, but just try and find low number owner cars it aint easy!!!
It would matter to Highway ...
and I do think all of us would highlight one owner cars when it comes to bragging rights but its really not uncommon for cars such as Porsche to have seemingly high number of owners. Cars like these are as often daily drives as they are one of several. They are not bought as shopping trolleys or MPV's so often or not, a car will get sold on because of a whim or a change in lifestyle.
Personally, I think you have to look beyond that and check history, servicing etc and buy the best you can to suit budget and preferences. There is certainly no certainty that one owner would have cared for the vehicle any better than 10 and even less that any one of them might not have slaughtered the car during their stewardship.
I'm the 7th owner of my 993 and it has made not a jot of difference to it being one of nicest cars I've owned.
That is what i like about this place. Lots of honest answers and good advice! Cheers.
How does the price look on this one. 6 owners but looks like a good history.

also anyone have any experience with autobahn and are they any good?
my 993 was bought from Autobahn by the guy I bought off,IIRC he got the local OPC to source if for him through Autobahn, they seem to be well respected enough at anyrate
Talk up the deal don't they.
I think SMTP bought his 993 Turbo from there. I went to look at a car but didn't buy. They've been going for long enough for someone to have flamed them if there was an issue with their back-up.
Only some comparison shopping will show up whether that car is good value. The photographs show up the same old issue with the seat leather and the gripe about 996 quality but best to see it in the flesh if it suits. Spec's okay but I'd have guessed (and mean guessed) it was upper end of price band for a 2002 car.
As to the model, my mate has a C4 cab and loves it but then he also bought a VW Golf 1.6 and VW Fox ... :dont know:
I recently sold my M3 with 7 owners, and though it did not bother me when I bought it. You also need to thing about when you come to sell it. A lot of callers about my car lost interest when they found out how many owners it had!
I am big on low previous owners not sure why just seems the way to go which is partly why I bought my 996 99 plate from a guy who had it from new. So just one previousowner 10 year old car. Natuarally when it is time to sell the buyer/dealer will tell me it makes no difference, but just try and find low number owner cars it aint easy!!!
Personally, I would say that was their loss if you had the relevant historical documentation for the car...
Overall condition of the vehicle takes precedence whether I buy a car or not. If it's a one owner then fine - providing the condition meets my expectations (which may be different from others) that is consistent with year, mileage, etc.
I would much prefer a 6 owner clean example than a one owner dinged, scuffed, ripped, curbed, bits hanging off example. I found that quite alot of 911's had frequently changed owners early on in their lives. Tiptop Topcat outlines the probable reasons for this in the earlier post.
You (and others) will buy the car you want. If it ticks all the boxes and checks out good you do the right thing. However, it seems you can't get away from the fact many people are immediately put off by the previous keeper count being greater than 2 or 3. :dont know:
In my opinion some owners of 911's have more money than others and they just change them like (I) change my pants! I know someone who has a 996 that the original owner owned for 5 weeks! These cars can change hands quickly - for no other reason than the owner gets bored of them!!
Prices are either recovering (which is good for all of us) or that's a lot of money for a car with that mileage. I would say that you could do better elsewhere - especially if you're willing to go down the private route.
Just a matter of interest for you as a purchaser; there are plenty of horror stories on this and other Porsche Forums about people who've bought 911's from "alternative" Porsche dealers AND OPC's (Official Porsche Centres). It does not necessarily guarantee you a 100% safe purchase.
It might be worth considering buying privately and getting an independent inspection done by a reputable guy. There's one guy that a lot of people refer to on this forum who does these inspections who's supposed to be very good. Maybe someone will come along soon and give you his details (if you're interested).
On a personal note, I wouldn't go for a drop-top or a tiptronic gearbox. (Sorry!!) :bye:
When I started this I thought it 100% needed to be from an Indie or OPC.But as I keep serching, I am opening up to the private route. I really wanted to have some security in the knowledge of having a warranty should the worst happen!
As said above, these cars tend to be impulse buys and equally impulse sells. What if the one or two previous owners didn't look after the car properly - is it still a good car? Surely the way a car has been looked after and it's condition is vastly more important than how many owners are on the log book? Right car, right condition, right price - that's all that matters to me!
And ignore the comment about the drop top above - it's the only way to go!!
996
6 owners in 6 years would put me off
The next buyer would be number 8 after you
I would not even come to view with that many but I may not be typical
