Thanks for your responses, i took a trip to porscheshop today and got a new pair of lower wishbones (and balljoints) , fitted an hour ago and this has solved the problem!

I have seen top mounts, control arms or wishbone rubber suggestions, but i have changed all these (and fitted all under normal load, not jacked up)

I have changed ALL of the rubbers in the lower wishbones to poly's, and i have just replaced both wishbone control arms today for new items.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

If you do it yourself, make sure when you bolt it back together it is all tightened up under load (after tightening the balljoint, make sure the wheels on the ground or as i did, put axle stands under the wishbone to take the weight of the car)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Had a similar problem with poly wishbone bushes and repacking with grease fixed it.
Hi guys, newbie here to this forum, but regular on others.
I am the proud owner of my 4th 911, but my first 996 (1999 C2 Tip)
I have scoured the forums for others with the same creaking issue as me but i cant seem to pinpoint my problem:
I get a CREAK at low speeds from the front, both sides, but not specific to going over bumps (i.e. if i go over a speed hump it may creak or may not) but it creaks all the time below 40mph going over slight bumps on a normal A road. Seems to happen after about 20 minutes of driving and not before (some would say after warming up)
I have changed ALL of the rubbers in the lower wishbones to poly's, and i have just replaced both wishbone control arms today for new items. Still get the creak. - it is not coming from the top-mount area so i havent removed these yet (but i have emptied one or two cans of spray grease and WD40 on all of the joints)..
My question is; can the balljoints in the wishbone creak? - i am going to go and purchase some new complete wishbones tomorrow from my local Porsche stealer (meaning i have wasted money on the poly bushes in my old joints) - before i waste £400 on wishbones can anyone offer advice?
I have seen top mounts, control arms or wishbone rubber suggestions, but i have changed all these (and fitted all under normal load, not jacked up)
Thanks.
Mine has been WD40'd to death and it stops it for a very short time. It is in the garage today to be sorted once and for all - I'll let you know what the outcome was.

I do a lot of miles so repacking the old joints was a bit of a gamble for me as noise=friction=wear=potential failure in my eyes.
At least looking under the car at the front it is all nice and shiny now!
Yes, i did it myself - it is fairly easy, about 45 minutes a side - 3 bolts and a nut on the balljoint (you need a balljoint splitter)
The front control arms were even easier - about 15 minutes a side, 2 bolts.
If you do it yourself, make sure when you bolt it back together it is all tightened up under load (after tightening the balljoint, make sure the wheels on the ground or as i did, put axle stands under the wishbone to take the weight of the car)
