Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Decided to change my AOS (OE Porsche part) since it is probably original with 150k miles on the odometer. Install went fine about a month ago and I opted to reuse the original crankcase breather hose. I did notice that the 3 way breather hose was stiff and didn't quite click into place. Probably due to the gaskets being old. About a couple weeks later I noticed the oil level dropped a bar. No significant smoke on startup. There is definitely some fresh oil that made it's way into the IPD plenum . I ordered a new breather hose and 3 way hose. Could a air leak from one of the hoses cause oil to make its way past the AOS and into the plenum or is it possible that the new AOS failed? I am going to disassemble the plenums and do a good clean out. Just wondering if I need to return the AOS for another one. These are the parts I ordered. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

POST 2Original post

Have you considered measuring the crankcase vacuum using a manometer at the oil filler cap ? Excessive vacuum would indicate a failing AOS . Low vacuum would indicate an air leak. -RobT Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

POST 3Original post

I guess what I am wondering is if it's more likely that the new AOS simply failed or if the crankcase hoses caused oil to blow past into the plenum. Debating if I could just clean out the newly replaced AOS or if I should go ahead and replace it again as I install all of the new crankcase hoses. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

POST 4Original post

I'm guessing that if one of the hoses is leaking (low vacuum) it would not draw oil into the intake. A failing AOS can cause high vacuum leading to increased oil being sucked through the intake. -RobT Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

POST 6Original post

Easy enough to take out and put it in. First time took about 30 mins. Going to try and just clean up the oil that made its way past the AOS and install new hoses. I'm thinking the vacuum leak is the culprit. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

POST 7Original post

I replaced the AOS and ended up breaking the lower vacuum hose. That hose was a pain to replace, later on I ended up breaking the upper hose! they snap so easily. does the engine sound the same? when I had that vacuum leak my car was idling really bad. this was from a bad AOS leak!
