Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

General concensus on the RMS is that you live with the odd drip until the clutch needs changing, when the RMS and Intermediate Shaft seals can be replaced cheaply.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Seriuosly thinking of shifting one of my 944 turbos and venturing into 996 ownership, but keep hearing stories of rear oil seals and radiators going kaput, anything else to look for. Probably looking at a 10 year old C2 manual. Whar are the pitfalls apart from the obvious, damage history etc. Anyone on here got a 10+ year car on classic insurance as it would not be a daily driver. TIA Jim

POST 2Original post

Rads are a common problem, and quite a few cars suffer from RMS weeps. General concensus on the RMS is that you live with the odd drip until the clutch needs changing, when the RMS and Intermediate Shaft seals can be replaced cheaply. Take a look at this: https://www.porscheclubgb.com/legacy/clientftp/Register/996/tec_buyers_checklist.pdf . It gives a few things to look out for. Can't help with insurance I'm afraid, as mine is a daily driver.
