I replaced my dead one with a £98 Halfords cheapie, works a treat and until this thread, I had forgotten all about it.

If you have a Porsche warranty do you need to get a new battery to maintain the warranty - on the basis of only using Porsche supplied parts?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is a dead battery covered by the warranty? I guessed not but the guy from RAC (Porsche Assistance) thought it was.

My battery went earlier this month along with the alternator. Alternator was done under warranty but I had to pay for the battery and it had to be a Porsche one.
£250
Battery hasn't been covered so far with my 2 failures.
Alternating between a Bosch and Halfrauds one at the moment. But as DrM says looks like a Porsche 250 quid job will be required to renew with the 'new type' warranty! :-(
Just a tip from my own experience.
If you want to get a Porsche battery for warranty purposes then order it through your Porsche Assistance contract. Doing it this way will save you a fair bit as they will fit it for free for you.
I did this and from memory paid about £150 for the battery rather than the £250 ish that the local OPC wanted (inc fitting)
If you are not worried about the warranty issue then I think there are better batteries for less money out there (Bosch Silver?)
Having been stung by exacty the same issue on my first day of use !
The special Porsche RAC van should carry the right battery and be £100 cheaper. Though in my case the van (only 8 in the UK ?) was not available for a few days so I was forced to go to an OPC to save time. Had to sit down when I was told it would be £252 sir.
Luckily supply trader did the decent thing and paid for the battery (though not the labour)

Batteries are consumables and as long as it has the correct rating, surely the OPC can't complain. Certainly mine didn't complain about the non-standard battery during the recent major service.
Yeh, one of my batteries (which i cycle) is £98 Halfords and no issue with. I have had non-porsche batteries i think for my last 3 services and warranty renewals without issue.
However, seems with the new type warranty even if you have non-Porsche batteries or even wipers you cannot renew the warrranty. :dont know:
good tip on getting RAC to replace, thanks. :thumb:
You definitely need an official Porsche battery if you want to renew the warranty - madness and illogical but that's the rules. I need the car tomorrow so cannot wait for RAC, so am going to jump it in the morning and visit OPC East London, deep breath and take it like a man! £252 !
What's to stop you going to an OPC parts department, buying the battery, and fitting it yourself?
70AH - Part no 999.611.070.20 - £117.45 inc VAT
80AH - Part No 999.611.080.20 - £142.89 inc VAT
That's without any discount. PCGB members get 10% at most OPCs, and I've heard of non-members getting discounts on some parts. You could certainly save yourself £100+ doing it that way.
