Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Still new to Porsche but on the bmw's it even says in the manual to gently apply the handbrake carefully whilst driving to 'clean' it.

Or if its the disks will they 'clean' themsleves if I give it a proper run and use the brakes plenty?

Then try Cleaning then off from a speed of 70+ down to an almost stop several times brake hard enough to almost deploy the ABS.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Recently noticed both a hissing noise on braking and also a distinctive pulse feeling from them, especially at very low speeds.
The brakes are also pretty noisey when going on and off at car park manouvre speeds- they make quite a yelp (for want of a better word)
Made the mistake of leaving the handbrake on a couple of monthsbak while I was away on business and it jammed- am presuming that this is the cause of the pulsing, but not sure why that would cuase the hiss or the 'yelp'.
Any ideas on cause? And what do I need to replace? Or if its the disks will they 'clean' themsleves if I give it a proper run and use the brakes plenty?
The handbrake sticking is a well documented issue.
Rust build up is another.

Then try Cleaning then off from a speed of 70+ down to an almost stop several times brake hard enough to almost deploy the ABS.
There may be a build up of rust or pad material build up.
Do this with caution.
Oh and leave your car in gear with the hand brake off if your car is stood if this is possible.
Hi Peat, have you had a look at the amount of meat left on the pads (Caliper and Handbrake) :?: . You can do this by the little finger test. If you can get your little finger between the disc and the pad backing plate so its touching the friction material on either side of the discs front and back youve got enough. If not think about new pads.
You can use a similar technique for the handbrake pads, but the test is only to confirm there is some friction material there.
This is not a particularly scientific method, but its good enough to know the urgency of action being required.

I don't believe you can check the parking brake shoes without removing the disks, because they are on the inside of the disk hubs.
You also know when the disk pads are getting low when the light comes on the dash.
Try taking a good look at the inner faces of the disks. They can corrode really badly, despite the outer faces looking good.
Still new to Porsche but on the bmw's it even says in the manual to gently apply the handbrake carefully whilst driving to 'clean' it.
Generally rear disk handbrakes are shite anyway so a lockup whilst driving is rare, just be carefull, lol.
Check that you have the front shims installed. You can only do this by removing them. Without the shims the brakes are very noisy. When brakes are replaced by generalist third parties they don't know about the shims - so it depends on who last changed them for you.
cheers
