Christophorus issue 375 states this about the new 911 turbo engines: "Take the direct injection. For the first time, the fuel injectors are positioned centrally, that is, the injector is located directly between the four intake and exhaust valves." Huh? I know my 981 has DI, and I thought the 911 has used it since about 2009. Does anyone know what they mean by this?
Sure... but just because it's DFI doesn't mean the injectors are in the middle of the valves.
I don't think that's true. With 4 valves there is no other place for the injectors to go. My understanding (could be wrong) is that DI, 4 valve heads all have the injectors in the middle. I can't find any reference to "prove" this, but I'd at leadt bet that all Porsche DI engines have a centrally located injector and that if any other manufacturers do not have the injectors centrally located, it would be a strange exception.
Ok, looks like you may be right (or from your perspective, I may be wrong
. But I'd love to see a photo of a 981 or 991 head to see the location of the injectors. I always assumed they were in the center, but I can't find any photos or schematics.
LOL. All about perspective, eh?
To be fair, I did some searching as well and couldn't easily find a diagram showing where the injectors are. Otherwise I would have had a more definitive answer. There's gurus here that know for sure though. We just need to wait for them to wake up.
Found it! I had it all along in my "Service Information" supplemental book that I bought a long time ago. Here is a diagram of the injector location in the 981 and 991 engines. The only thing I hate more than being wrong is you being right!
Only kidding. Thanks for teaching me something. (This is the last thing I will get wrong in 2015!)
Had a 69 911E, absent 2 valves, looks about right. Loved the sound at the shift points, bam!

I hate direct injection. That doesn't have anything to do with the actual topic of this thread thing but I couldn't resist.
