Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Had all six of mine replaced under warranty back in September.
Leading evidence: 'Replace under warranty back in september' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check level in reservoir every few miles/minutes' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
If you are set on 4k shake down, just take for a short drive round block, checking level in reservoir every few miles/minutes.

Even then there are a number of alternatives, live vacuum assist and careful, slow filling on a gradient down to front rads.

How many are on the car 6 , 3 or 2 (Im to bloody annoyed to look) there was also a Q / A session relating to how much fuel was in the car,had I let it run low the day before (yes 10 on range) but had driven 85 miles over the day/night before this happened today.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys,
Can anyone help with this,5 miles from home taking Mrs to a Hospital appointment and enter roundabout,as I accelerate a misfire appears.Engine check light on,Please drive to workshop etc.
Back home swap to Mrs car (BMW 330 Coupe) so it not to hard to make up the time to hospital.
I spoke to Promax motorsport, who serviced the car in Oct 08
and they seem to think its a coil pack.I know this was a problem with
VW/Audi a couple of years back but has anyone had these stop
working on a 911 also ?

Any ideas on the cost of coil packs as I think
I may get them all changed if they are going to play up.The car is a
2002 3.6 Tip S just turned 70K :x
Common issue - ProMax changed all mine for less than £200 IIRC (but that may have been part of a service?)
If you had an old fashioned single coil system it would most likely have failed long ago...
Check out where they are: attached to hot engine under car in range of grot and spray from the road.
Now you know why they fatigue and crack over time (anywhere between four and eight years old). They are effectively a wear and tear item, unless you consider their location and operating parameters a design fault ;-)
OPC Cambridge charged me £233 to supply and fit all six.
I had Porsche replace my engine and move it up front to stop this problem from reoccurring. In my opinion it was bad design of Porsche to put the engine so low down and at the back of the car. I'm lucky I had a warranty to cover me. I pity those people who don't have an extended warranty as I don't think Porsche will move their engine under good will especially.....
:hand: :boxer:
Jeff, there is a DIY solution to this problem.
Basically, stick bricks in the suspension towers and drive backwards. I think the full conversion is documented on RennTech - I'll see if I can dig out the link.
Apparently, you will notice very little difference in aerodynamics*. Plus the real value of the rear wiper is then revealed.
*I may have misattributed this to the 996, it might be the humble 986 Boxster that doesn't know if it is coming or going - caused by some night cleaners accidentally dropping the prototype clay design buck and putting it back 180 degrees wrong on the windtunnel pedestal.
IGNITION COIL
Hi,
Just brought my 02 996 C2 back from a coolant expansion tank. During the terrifying 4000rpm coolant top up procedure an amount of fluid coughed down the left bank of the engine.
She began missfiring from the left bank.
On further inspection the No1 ignition coil was spectacularly corroded (the worst they had ever seen)! so some water had migrated to where it shouldnt have been!A few minutes later, a new coil pack was fitted and she was back to her old self.
The coil pack issue may also answer a sudden drop in accelearing prowess a week or so ago when it felt like the rev limiter suddenly kicked in when performing an aggressive overtaking manouvre, but the rev level seemed low for this.
Hope this helps :thumb:
Not sure where this perceived necessity to rev engine to 4,000 rpm during routine top up comes from.
DON'T.
The procedure is only applicable during full flush and refill or that process after new rads. Even then there are a number of alternatives, live vacuum assist and careful, slow filling on a gradient down to front rads.
If fitting new rads, "wet" them.
If you are set on 4k shake down, just take for a short drive round block, checking level in reservoir every few miles/minutes.
You will probably have guessed from above, leave the cap on. Assuming the system is no more than 1 litre underfilled (count them as you pour them in), then any excess air pockets will safely belch into the reservoir and you can top up as the level resettles.
