Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I always thought the cap rested on the flap that you open unless they changed the design when they facelifted the car.

Is repair impossible - ie do I have to buy a new cap complete with the strip or is there an alternative ( apart from leaving it as it is)...?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Heres a little niggle which maybe someone can help me with. The petrol cap on my 2004 996 has a security strap or rather a rubber strip which fixes to the car as well as the cap and which has broken. Is repair impossible - ie do I have to buy a new cap complete with the strip or is there an alternative ( apart from leaving it as it is)...?

POST 2Original post

You can't buy the strap any more, and I don't think the new caps come with them. The caps are fairly cheap at £9.47 inc VAT, so it wouldn't cost a fortune to find out. Part number 996.201.241.03.

POST 3Original post

I always thought the cap rested on the flap that you open unless they changed the design when they facelifted the car.

POST 4Original post

The caps have the rubber strap on them! £8.00 +vat
