I am looking into buying either a 996 c2 or c4, and would be interested in knowing what the average running cost would be.

Running costs is a bit finger in the air, but including tyres it seems £1,500 a year is a good middling figure.

Depends on how many miles you do, the condition of your car, if you use OPC or Indy for repairs and service, if you buy a warranty and what unexpected repairs come up.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am looking into buying either a 996 c2 or c4, and would be interested in knowing what the average running cost would be. Obviously not taking fuel into account.
Also am I correct in thinking that car tax would be cheaper for a pre 2001 model.
Yup, my road tax is £185 a year for the 2000 996, the same as my 4.0 Rangie
Running costs is a bit finger in the air, but including tyres it seems £1,500 a year is a good middling figure.
How long is a piece of string. If you're concerned about a few quid on road tax then I'd politely suggest that a 996 is not the car for you. Depends on how many miles you do, the condition of your car, if you use OPC or Indy for repairs and service, if you buy a warranty and what unexpected repairs come up. etc etc.
Mine has cost me £1000 per year without tyres, so £1500 is probably average. If you have a warranty then add another £1000 plus the costs to get it approved for warranty - that could cost you a lot of money. Best to get it under warranty before you buy.

i bought my 52 plate 911 and had to spend 1K immediately as i found the condensors and the rads were leaking slightly. These cars are no cheap to run if you land lucky with one then your ok if you buy a bad one the shine soon goes off
Yes I understand they aren't cheap as they have porsche written on them. I was just asking for info regarding an annual costing. Not whether I could afford one. However thank you for your time.....
I've had mine about a year and 3 months - it's a 2001 C2 and I've spent £450 on two OPC services - one annual and one minor. I've spent £163 on some new spark plug tubes and a suspension bush and £595 on 4 new tyres. Over the next year I expect the clutch will need doing as it's getting heavy (£550 at an independant) so About £1K per year seems accurate. My road tax is £210 so not much more than a pre-2001
Good post Ray....
sanny1978 - it also depends what you want to do with the 996. They're great track cars and, as such, regular hard driving will obviously push the general consumable costs up. Conversely, a wash and polish every other day coupled with a circuit of the Town Hall and then return to garage/car port with a full tank of fuel lasting 8 months could cost less :dont know: but is no where near as much fun...

Running depend on how often and how you use it.
Some are garage queens some are daily drivers.(not that there is any thing wrong with the latter)
You see parts wear tyres scrub rad burst and so on.
Just when you think it's perfect something crops up.
When it is perfect then this urge kicks in and you want add mod or two.
2k per year if you sank to keep as you would like to buy it.
There is always spmething to do to your Porsche!
