Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The ppl that did my tires i had do an alignment. I dont want to get into it... this post isnt about them. its about getting this done right. Anyway they alinged the car and it drives worse than when they started. I do not have any of the traction control or steering stuff... Ya know its a plain jane 90,000$ car..... Anyway the car wagon ruts now and pulls very hard the way the road leans. it also doesnt have a good center line. Its going back thursday. Any tips n tricks.. My closest p dealer is 2 hours away. any tips or tricks I can tell them? For example the 928 can not have the suspention stretched before the alignment or you get toe out and you bald the inside of your tires. Yes they did give me a printout of the final alignment I will go get it and post it up here and see if any of you see anything thats off

POST 2Original post

Do you have the P-Car specs to compare with what you should have?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7871451

no

POST 6Original post

The readout you have posted appears spot on for a street alignment. It should be fairly tire friendly as well. The only big change from before is a decrease in rear toe in. Toe in adds some increased stability and increased tire wear.A diff from side to side of 1/8 deg of camber isn,t much. Did you or they check tire pressure before doing the adjustments? Do you have old worn or new squirmy tires? I do mine with a full tank and a 100 lb weight in the drivers seat.

Thanks Pete Rears are brand new, Fronts have 7000 mi on them but the tread on them is as good as teh back and are only a few months old

POST 8Original post

brand new tires won't feel great, make sure you check pressures

POST 9Original post

ditto on the pressures! Alter your pressures, experiment a bit. Try 30-35, 35-40, and 40-45 F to R combinations. It's bound to make a big difference. See what feels best, at one pressure combo it should fee terrific if the alignment is in spec. Recommended alignment specs are a one size fits all, good for most situations, perfect for none. Maybe you're falling thru the cracks.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 7872598

I'd be curious, too, about the build date for those front tires. If tread blocks and sidewalls in a low profile tire have stiffened with age, that can cause tramlining for sure.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok. I will chk the pressures. I know little about an alignment rack. But something is telling me when they hook this thing back up to the rack... its going to be off. I dont think the rack was connected to the car right. The car also has accessive road noise too.

POST 12Original post

hold on, we have gone off track.. 1. the car drove fine 2. you had it aligned 3. now it doesnt or was there a set of new rear tires on the build list? anyhow... I wont ask why you had them align it but you already did that so....now you are here. There have been a lot of alignment issues and it boils down to several key problems. The wrong tools (alignment system/rack) the wrong techs (general techs with no real p-car experience) the wrong settings (thats self explanatory) and then some other underlying issue........ tire preasure? come on, my alignment guy would not even touch the car without checking that.... he does a complete series of checks including adding ballast for me (and if stated) my "average" passenger - a true alignment guy is all you need and he/she wont send you out the door unless it's perfect OR telling you why its not perfect and suggesting the repairs - end of story! get a new shop for alignment (one more thing.... price is not what makes it.... although I pay quite a bit there is a Discount Tire shop near me that has a (suposedly) amazing guy... the 6speed board praises him all the time and guys in Lambo's and Ferarri's often take thier cars there for alignment, so a good guy can be found in an unsuspecting place........)

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7872829

The car drove OK, But the rears didnt wear the same.. So I wanted it done. The reason this shop did it becasue it was the one who put on the tires. to be hoest with you ed I have no idea what part of the 750.00 was alignment... You cant drive a 90K car and then complain about the cost of an alignment .. Not only will you be called the "***** in the porsche, But then you are the cheap ***** in the porsche" Tire pressure was fine all the way around.

POST 14Original post

Your rear left was wearing fast because almost all the rear toe in was on that side. The total toe at the rear was also way too much. New rear tires will squirm alot for maybe 500 mi. I am assuming you have the same brand tires all around. Your printout looks like it was done on a Hunter machine. This is a good piece of equipment and easy to use. The only thing I would do is set the toe in at both ends towards the max allowed while still remaining in the green spec area on the printout.

POST 15Original post

Any update Kyle? My car follows the pitch of the road as well, I've done 3 alignments and still have the same issue. I replaced rears as well but had the problem before also.

POST 16Original post

Given the recent alignment and what Shark said on the tires (new rears, existing fronts), my bet is the front tires will need to be replaced. I had a very similar experience with wagon rutting and increased road noise until I replaced the tires and it went away.

POST 17Original post

Keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes upon the road. Let it roll baby roll. Let it roll baby roll, all night long. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNigNUD8CKo Anyway running lower toe in does give a better feel for the road which some detect as the car tracking on rutts or what not. You should have better handling with the current toe in. My advice is try flying the car to test out the alignment as is. Thats the real test of the alignment like it should be. Then chase the noise. You say the car doesn't have a good centerline? Do you mean the wheel isn't centered or its like the car frame is bent while driving down the road? I'd head to porsche for a fix if the current guy fails. Lots of good advise with no satisfaction for you yet? Not to add to the misery but be there when they finish so that you do the road test. Something about strangers road testing somebody elses 911 doesn't sit right with me. Get the stats sheet too right after they finish.

POST 18Original post

I,ve been a licensed mechanic more than 30 years and if a customer doesn,t want/allow me to test drive my work they can take it somewhere else.

POST 19Original post

I'm pretty sure the first time around there wasn't a test drive or the problem would of been known. Then during his second attempt for satisfaction coming up, it is the customers likes tended to since the shop missed out on the first try. New tires are best to be gentle with since there is a break in process of at least 100miles taking it easy. No radical throttle, braking or turns. If you did such a thing and it turns out the new tire are defective just stay quite for them to replace them. The centerline problem is probably like you say they blew the hook up of gear or cough cough your body is bent. Check the settings on your seat. I was feeling all strange crusing around till I realized the seat had me jacked all out of shape. The arm distance was still the same but the height was way to high.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I drove it today again and it just wonders. For example.. I cant drive and text becasue when I look down the car drifts off to one side ot the other. (thats and example... Relax.. I Nvr Drv N Txt-EVR u no)

POST 21Original post

One side or the other tells me you would be more comfortable with a little more toe in on the front. I run slightly toed out which gives you faster turn in but less straight line stability.
