Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The car has 63000 on it but the engine was replaced in 2007 with the car covered 25000.

I used a bore scope and it picked up slight scoring on all the liners.

I used some in my 993 engine before rebuilding that (broken piston ring at 186k miles) and it really did clean the combustion chambers up.

I was convinced my engine was facing impending doom last week having started it up after a few days sat with rough running, smoke from exhausts and an imagined ticking; all owing to a misfire due to a cracked coil pack.

On this subject I wonder what the feeling is on using a fuel system cleaner, something like BG 44K for instance, to reduce the inevitable carbon build up that results from driving with bore score.

What is the mileage of your car - sounds like it will keep going for quite a bit longer as the tapping is probably not related to the bore condition or you would have also experienced oil use increasing.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have the dreaded scoring on all 6 cylinders. I used a bore scope and it picked up slight scoring on all the liners. I'm slightly puzzled as the car runs perfectly only uses a tiny amount of oil no smoke both tail pipes have even amounts of carbon deposits on them.
The one symptom that is there is a very light tapping noise on tickover you can only hear it if you pull up along side a concrete wall allowing the engine noise to bounce of the wall. I have read that there will always be a tiny amount of scoring on the thrust side of the liners and this is nothing to worry about. Any thoughts guys. Just to as the tapping noise only happens on tickover if I increase the rpm even a tiny amount the noise stops.

The difficulty always is assessing things without looking at them yourself and also assessing when is the right time to rebuild (before issues like crank bearing wear damage the crankshaft for example).
I would try and monitor it and when you think it is starting to deteriorate get someone experienced at interpreting noises and bore pictures to advise you further.

The car has 63000 on it but the engine was replaced in 2007 with the car covered 25000. So the lump I have has only covered 38000. I have confirmed this as fact by contacting the Porsche dealership that carried out the work. It all checked outðŸ‘
Are you sure it's scoring and not normal wear marks that are magnified by the borescope? The fact you have it on all cylinders and it runs fine indicates a
misdiagnosis!!
That's exactly what I was hoping for. I do have one of the scan videos but finding it hard to post. The video is not the best but the magnification is making it look quite scored but as you say it amplifies the scoring. I will try again to post the video.
Hi
I am nooooo expert but.....
Having seen some proper bore score recently, I would say that is fine. I would be following the accepted wisdom on preventing bore score though in the future.
Is your car a manual or tip?
All the best

That's not bore scoring mate. They are normal marks it just looks bad because of the light on the endoscope. I'm sure Hartech can give an expert opinion.

We're a funny breed us Porsche owners.. actively looking for problems that aren't there and fearing the worst before it's happened! I was convinced my engine was facing impending doom last week having started it up after a few days sat with rough running, smoke from exhausts and an imagined ticking; all owing to a misfire due to a cracked coil pack. A little information can be a dangerous thing. The fact remains that having driven 5 generations of 9x6 cars, the reliability has been near perfect and actually very little has gone wrong. I'm determined to try and enjoy every mile I can squeeze out of my C4S and deal with the worst when/if it ever happens rather than catastrophise and over-investigate things.
